Rube, any chance you'll be able to keep tabs/post pictures of this truck after it leaves your hands and gets finished up? I'd love to see photos of the fuel tank and interior/exterior work and the finished product.

I will try to keep this thread updated, I can't wait to see it in paint either.:)

Nice touches!

Nice finishing details.
Yeah, I'd like to see how it comes out too.

BTW: Got the trans pan you modified. Came out great, and will make a much simpler task for me to run the front driveshaft.
Thanks again for the attention to detail, and the good deal!

Hi Scott, I'm glad, I was wondering if it was going to work out for you. It gave me plenty of room to run a 2" shaft, but I didn't know where your front axle pinion was in relation to this one.

I talked with the customer today, he assured me he would keep me/ thread updated with pics...and I am guessing my role in this Scout's build isn't quite done yet anyways.

what will the lower basket fit into in the tank?

The mount is simply a plate that will weld to the bottom of the tank, with 2 gr 5/16 bolts tigged to it...very basic. The tank itself will be baffled internally around the pick up, And I cut an access hole in the floor to allow fuel pump changes without dropping the tank.

Looks great Rob, as usual. I too would like to see the finished version of this Scout.

Looking forward to more pictures of awesome work! :victory:

Thanks guys!

Alright. Soooooooooo What's the next awesome project??? Eagerly awaiting!!!

LOL, next major project is finishing up a landcruiser buggy project, then a 2007 Dodge for an expo member, then finishing up the fabwork on a street driven 2000 hp 67 Camaro, and in between the big projects I am going to do a bumper/skid and sliders for another expo member, a couple cages for older jeeps, bumpers and rocksliders for the 6BT K5, and keep up with some of the production products I sell. In my spare time, I also have my own project that desperately desires some attention...:sombrero:

I just spent a few hours reading this thread and wanted to say a couple of things. First, great build thread and fantastic fabricating skills! As far as the Scout part of it goes, I pulled the front leaf spring packs off a V8 Traveler about six months ago in a local JY. The body was probably 90% there, appears it had a small impact on the drivers side corner but the motor was trashed so the owner junked it. Unfortunately, it went to the crusher when they were through with it. A part of it lives on in my XJ rear suspension.

As far a the wind deflector for the rack, I have a smaller rack which was creating a lot of resistence at highway speeds and even a hum when it was windy out. I made a deflector out of sheet metal and installed it and it is 100% better and quiet now. Just saying.....

Thanks for the input, a deflector may very well be in the future plans. Of course, it is only 4 bolts to pull the roof rack off, I would be more inclined to set up a system in the garage to make it easy to pull the roof rack/ top off when need be...

One of the last things on my list was to finish the front bumper, I literally couldn't decide the direction I wanted to go.

Sorry to disappoint the "eyebrows" crew, but I decided it just didn't go with the personality of this Scout. K.I.S.S. is what I started out to do, and I think it really matched the original, simple utilitarian nature of IH's. The original goal of this build was to modernize the Scout for every day usage, but NOT lose the nostalgia...kind of a modern version of this:

I think its aggressive enough?

Approach angle, about as good as it gets with leaf springs and little tires :D

I was happy with the weight savings too. The bumper, comprised of 3/16 plate, and 1.75 .120 dom ended up weighing only 70lbs. The winch weighed 72 lbs with the steel cable, I thought 142 lbs was doing pretty good on overall weight, especially considering the steel cable and beefy nature of the bumper.

Here is a shot that shows the skeletonized internal bracing that maintains strength, but also allows weight savings.

Here, you can see the mini led turn signals I mounted in the light bezel

The d ring mount is welded directly to the frame, incorporated into the bumper mounts.

Not that my opinion matters, :) but I think you made the right choice on the bumper.
I followed a link on Binder Planet to this thread and joined this site just so I could say, WOW! Awesome!
