Spent the weekend doing a couple of things, one of which adds a bit of electrical upgrades to the list of...gotta get that done ASAP.

1. When I switch over from propane to gasoline, I have to crank the motor in order to have the mechanical fuel pump fill up the carburetor float bowl. If my starting battery is low, I run the risk of being left with a dead battery...as was the case on Saturday afternoon.

...Now...yes, I have dual batts, but they are not linked, so if my starting battery (hooked to the starter motor) goes deat, I can manually jump to the other battery, which still has 12V, but it's a PITA.

So...a dual battery management system is a must....

Sounds like a good plan.

I missed the fact that your troopy can run on propane OR gas. How does the MPG compare?

On a side note, is there a way to manually pump the fuel pump? Yes it would be a pain to do, but if your battery was getting low, it would be a option. (The old diesel on the boat I work on has a low pressure pump that can be hand pumped, the high pressure pump can only be turned with the engine)

I really enjoy running propane. Cleaner, cheaper, and I seem to get better mileage; although I have yet to really check.

I don't know if there is a manual option for the engine driven pump...I do have a hand crank attachment on the front crank pulley...maybe I should have one made up...

As I recall when researching a propane conversion on the SLOYOTA, propane has roughly 80% of the energy content of petrol. It does contain more energy in a liquid state than petrol, but once run thru a regulator it's 28% less dense. Propane will allow a 22RE to run upside down or on it's side for a while...

Some updates!

1. OZTent is on the way!!!! An RV-5 with the goodies (Peaked side walls and deluxe front panel)....I'll post pics when it gets here!

...plus...even at 6'8" long packed...it still fits along the fender well of the Troopy!

2. Rear OEM tube-style tire carrier has been procured!

Leaving for a family trip to Mexico in a couple of weeks...figure I'd want a spare tire not taking up interior room.

It's not going to be an expedition trip...just a fun trip to a beach house with the wife and kiddo. Nonetheless, it will be fun to take some time and relax, have a few fish tacos, and chill out on the beach. It'll be the first long trip in the Troopy for my wife and kiddo....so we'll see....

It might be easier for you than I in LALA land...

Enjoy the trip! Have some Camarones Ranchero and a sip or two of Centenerio Reposado for me.
