1983 FJ45 Troop Carrier Buildup

The OE paint code will get you the original color, not what it has faded to. The paint supply shops have a spendy tool that analyzes the current color and calculates the code, which translates into the mixing formula.

Andy, with that Pimp limo tint, you need some of these to spruce that thing up......

Your blatant lack of bling fully brings the Meh......

Off topic, but what is Meh? I see it all over the place.

Back on topic A- it looks great with the tint. Are you really considering the 45 run this year?

Meh = apathetic reaction, ie "ho-hum", "whatever", etc.

Nothing meh about the Troopy. Now some of MoGas' posts... meh ...:removeredX:

I'm just busting chops....Hltoppr and I have been hanging out since when he had an old Wrangler (that oddly he never talks about) and I had my CJ5. My M416 came from him.

Andrew,

Now that you are back from your mad dash to Mexico have you thought anymore about what you will do with the cargo area and the fridge and such?

I actually prefer the rig to be "meh" rather than attract a lot of attention...especially in Mexico...

When she's filled with thousands of dollars worth of equipment...I'd rather thieves hit the white, lifted, armored FZJ80 sitting in MoGas' driveway....:ylsmoke:

I have the 45 run on my calendar...hopefully I'll be able to make it...fall is filling up fast, and I gotta work sometime then too...:violent-smiley-031: There seems to be a good contingent that may be coming along I-40...which would make for a really, really cool convoy out there!

I'm thinking a simple cargo floor with tie downs for the back. I'm designing a sliding table that would extend from at least 1/2 of the rear, in essence making a small "tailgate"....

We'll see....

Thats one reason I am thinking of the mismatched "25 year old patina" rather than matching it up 100%. But we'll see. I may just leave it primered... for now. I'm also thinking of getting some limo tint from autozone and botching it up.:xxrotflma

First off, as if I really need to tell you, but again your Troopy has put lustful thoughts into my mind...

Second... Does every paint shop know Toyota paint code 464? How do you go about telling them you want this color? Or would one be better off getting the paint mixed themselves?
Thanks.

FWIW... I am really trying to make the 45 run, even in an 80 if I have to. I need to figure out how to get this "Troopy" thing out of my system.

The 45 Run is open to all! The more the merrier.

I'm not a paint guru by any means, but I think that using the CCOT information regarding the PPG paint and year/model code, it would be pretty close. If you're repainting the entire rig it'd be fine. Maybe even just order it from CCOT, TLC, or someone who really knows what they're doing, and have done many, many gallons of paint.

....I think to get the Troopy out of your system you should just go buy the FJ45 quad cab beauty that TLC has....maybe just sell the house and start that round the world trip!

Thanks for the explanation. I've been trying to figure out what the letters meant as if it were an abbreviation. I guess I was over thinking it.

Other than lubing up the hood release (yes, this year model has an interior hood catch...so the hood locks when shut!), I decided to give the cans of matching paint a try.

So, the windows were masked off and I used the lower window line as a marking point, as well as the body/top line, and went to it!

It turned out so well that I think I'm just gonna order another 10 cans of matching enamel and rattle can the whole truck! I haven't done any blending, and it's difficult to see where the new paint is, other than a bit more shine!

The rear advertising has been left for old times sake, and given a fresh spray of clearcoat.

One color!
