Getting started on engine fit up. Ran into first glitch. The Clutch provided from Marks 4wd is 26 spline and should be 10 spline to match input shaft adapter so things on hold while sorting this out. IMG_20180723_135954662.jpgIMG_20180723_135923156.jpg

Well my clutch dilemma has gotten interesting. Marks4wd say I bought the MCK605HD clutch assembly. My purchase log says I intended to buy the MCK110 clutch assembly. I didn't look closely at their order confirmation sheet after ordering. Did I click the wrong button or did they mess up? No way to prove it either way other than that I had numerous emails back and forth with them prior to purchase describing my project and confirming fit. They say the MCK605HD is not compatible with the rest of the LS conversion kit I purchased. Obviously. They offered to change it for the correct part but I would have to pay the nearly $600 shipping to and from Australia. So I am thinking that I will just replace the clutch disc with a compatible clutch disc. I found a centerforce 384024 12" 10 spline (1.125"dia) disc for $138 that we are going to try. Marks4wd indicated I'd probably be best off sorting this out here but have been vague as to what I could do here to make this work. The housing and pressure plates match up to the fly wheel but they have said,
"The MCK605HD is a custom made clutch. The cover is machined deeper to suit the custom made disc that is made to give a standard clutch more clamp load.
Therefore you would not be able to purchase a clutch plate off the shelf that would suit.
Again the MCK110 clutch is a custom made clutch to suit our conversion.
But we have designed it to replicate a Chevy truck 10 spline / 12-inch clutch."
So we will see. May have to cough up the $600 and lose 5 or 6 weeks of build time in the end.
You would think they would have realized what with all our prepurchase discussions that they were shipping an incompatible clutch.

Well I decided to bite the bullet and order the correct MCK110 clutch assembly. It came quickly. Hopefully I'll get full refund on the other. In the mean time were getting the motor fit up. Ran into a number of fit issues between the Advanced Adapters fly wheel housing and the motor. The alignment pin holes in the motor were smaller than the ones in the housing so had to drill out the holes on the motor slightly. Also the 5 speed transfit up to the bell housing required a bit of grinding to eliminate some interfering tabs on the new trans. Well things moving slowing. I got the body completely stripped and sent to sand blasting company. The motor mounts are done and motor set in final location. Should have put air lockers in from the start but going to do that now.

What kind of power are you expecting with the engine upgrades over stock?
I've been running a stock 5.3 for the past 8 years and starting to think an engine upgrade is in order.........

TIA

So I got the 5.3L Vortec from Pacific Fab with their proprietary cam upgrade. This is really the only upgrade to the engine I got (if you don't count the change from 4 speed to 5 speed trans). I have asked them for some more detail on the package and how it affects performance but no info yet. What they say on their web site is, " It features a custom ground cam developed by Kevin Stearns, hardened chromoly pushrods, a billet double roller timing set, dual valve springs with titanium retainers, moly coated rockers, trunnion bearing upgrade, and hi-volume oil pump. The cam grind was developed by Kevin Stearns for his King of Hammers race truck. This cam features a very well rounded powerband offering great power throughout the rpm range while still staying very manageable on the street. With our cam package you can expect about a 100hp gain over stock " But not sure if all of this applies to the upgrade I purchased.

I found that a 1/8" od brass tube was the perfect size for doing the fuel level sender unit arm extension. I had to file the rod down slightly to get it to fit.

Body work is progressing. Panels are back from the sand blaster. Looks like I need new rocker panels, replace part or rear quarter panels and lower part of front left quarter panel.

Well it looks like I have some metal repair to do. I am ordering repair panels from Wolf Steel Restorations in Quebec.
