1983 FJ60 Land Cruiser rebuild and upgrade

Wow! great looking build. I did a very similar one on my '85 FJ-60 a number of years ago, and truly appreciate what you're doing.

Small suggestions when you get to the interior:
  • look for a remote fuel door cable assembly from an FJ-62; it's a bolt-up and adds convenience
  • I added a 4 speed intermittent wiper control from an '86 Toy truck; the switch is another bolt-up replacement in the steering column, with minor electrical splicing using all Toy parts. It looks factory and is nice in the rainy part of the country I drive.

Well I was doing some reading on Transfercase compatibility with 5 speed trans upgrades and I realized we didn't plug the center hole and did not install the cup/funnel that lubricates the fifth gear. Hole to be plugged.JPGOil cup funnel.JPG

So we tore the transfercase apart and found that my February 83 transfercase did not have the center hole but luckily did have the indent for the plastic cup/funnel insert. So we installed the insert and put everything back together again.

Received the new drive shafts from ShaftMasters and am now working on checking body fit up and detailing body dings and rust. Also have ordered replacement weatherstrip for windows and doors.

Checking body fit. Seems to be sitting higher than I expected. I am using HFS suspension system from CoolCruisers and I don't think the shackles aren't sitting right. They should be inclined forward in front and toward the rear in back and they aren't, need to check into this. Otherwise body fit up looks good.

Well even though we lowered the engine 1" below stock it is still too high. I have designed a new motor mount and will get it made so we can lower engine another 1". The new mount will sit inverted from the original.

Well we fit up the new Champion radiator. I had the inlet fabricated on the right side to avoid having to cross the feed hose across the top the the engine. Looks like plenty of room for cowl and electric fan. 175mm clearance face of radiator to front of flywheel.
