My 1985 RHD Defender 110 Hard top is for sale. It has 148k miles on it. It has a 200tdi and sals rear end. The hood has the tire mount on it but I don't have a 2nd spare. It also has a fairy capstan winch with a galvy front bumper. I have done a lot of work on it since I bought it last year.

Parts replaced (all new):

-timing belt/pulley
-water pump
-thermostat
-fan and viscous coupling
-front inner/out bearings
-new front rotors/calipers/pads
-hurculiner in cab area and seat box

-front main seal
-rear main seal
-input/output seals on transmission and transfercase
-u-joints on both driveshafts

It also recently has a new head gasket and the head was re-machined. It runs and drives great now. I also have some spare parts such as rod ends, some gaskets, etc. that will be included.

I've heard of this 110-I'm in Greenville with a IIa and I know Bob in Morehead (sometimes).

Hate to see your selling as you made great progress in quick time. Good luck with the sale!

Thanks Wander. I hate to sell it and I suppose if it doesn't sell I won't be too disapointed. It has been fun to work on and a blast to drive.

Your last post on that thread mentioned you had some whine in the rear end... Did this get looked at? any updates?

What kind of speeds are you getting out of the 200TDI :)

Would you trust it on a cross country trip?

Any further replacements or upgrades you would recommend?

Thanks!

Richie

It turned out it wasn't the rear end. After replacing the front bearings and after I got it back from the shop in Wilmington, I drove it around for about 1200 miles. The transmission/transfer make a little noise but from what I understand its a normal gear whine. I had the shop check out the rear end and they said it was fine. There was a little bit of vibes from the front and I discovered that I had put the slip yolk on the front driveshaft towards the transfercase. Once I flipped it, the sound went away.

Well, while driving around in that 1200 miles, I have tested the speeds. I had it up to about 75 but without a tach I'm not sure what RPM it runs so I didn't want to push it much more. It seems to drive comfortably between 60 and 70 as far as highway speeds go.

Since I replaced pretty much all of the consumables I would trust it cross country. About the only thing I haven't done is replace the rear brake shoes and re-pack the rear bearings. I can do that for you if you wanted before a trip across country.

Replacements/upgrades? Hmmm. Well I was planning on a roll cage of some sort, replacing the tape player/radio with a cd player, installing a slight lift, removing the fairy winch and putting an electric on it. Mechanically it is running great and driving great. I don't think it really needs anything in that way at this point.

Adding to my last post, I would eventually replace the rear door frame and drivers door frame due to some rust. The passenger side is solid.

Reasonable offers? I'd say your asking price of $14K is already reasonable! Looks like a fine truck, hang in there, you'll sell it.
