1990 Chevy Suburban 4x4 Trail Rescue Build

I found this Suburban by way of Craigslist and picked it up for around $1100. It was a trade, but I was only into my end of the trade $1100. The motor has been built, but I can't find the specs he gave me at the moment. Otherwise, it's stock. It runs and drives great, except needing a tune-up and new exhaust. It will need a new starter soon also.

Here's what it's getting:

- 6" Suspension Lift (Springs front and back.)
- 35" Tires ~ Still deciding on a tire style.
- New Wheels
- A full body sand blast, body work and repaint. There is very minor rust issues with this truck that won't even require new sheet metal. Also, the visor is getting deleted.
- Custom Safari Type Roof Rack (80% Roof Coverage), Powder Coated Black, w/ Hi-Jack, Spare Tire, Jerry Cans and Shovel Mounts
- Replacement of Warn-Out Stock Trim (Interior & Exterior) via LMC Truck
- Change Interior to Black w/ Diamond Plate & Billet Accents
- All new weather and window seals.
- New Black Carpet w/ Catch-All Floor Mats
- Recover all seating, black.
- Black Seatbelts by www.ssnake-oyl.com
- DIY4X Tube Doors (Front & Back) for Summertime

So, today I got a Unity Spotlight installed. It is a vintage light circa 1990ish, so a perfect look for my truck. I also installed a LED/incandescent combo dome light from a 2005 Crown Vic police car. It gives red LED light for "night vision safe" illumination and super bright white light when needed.

I'm going to be upgrading the bulb to LED and on the lookout for a shorter shaft spotlight.

All overhead compartments still open, just one not quite as far. Not a big deal, a fair trade for the new lighting features.

Nice truck that's one hell of a list. You know you don't need 6" to clear 35s right? I've got 37s on 4" under my 89 suburban. If you don't want to trim the fenders at all, then a 6" might be your best bet then.

Yeah, I don't want to mod my fenders/quarters. I think I had a 4" lift on my K-5 and cleared 35s without mods, but I want to be able to have some room for options in the future. Not to mention... 6", why not? ;-)

Looks good.

But remember that more lift is not always better.

Deosn't someone make really tough looking cutout fender flares for old 'burbans and K series trucks?

That is one of the nicest looking old 'burbans I've seen. Even the interior looks decent and repairable. I vote for white or flat black paint.

I still have found memories of riding offroad in my uncles 'burban 20 something years ago. I remember looking over the hood on that truck was like standing on a aircraft carrier. It's enormous size was half the fun.

Yeah bushwacker makes cut out flares. I'm not a fan of them personally, these trucks are big enough, why hang something off the body 4" on each side to get ripped off by rocks/trees/furry woodland creatures?

nice looking burb, i love that old body style. Cant wait to see it all done. Id vote for white if your going to paint it that flat black looks good but alot of time its hard to get right and it seems like it would be harder to maintain than just a normal gloss paint. Not positive though.
