That looks ************....how much did you stretch the axels, I plan on doing the same thing lol

I haven't started it yet, me and my homie are just collecting parts and getting it running nice. The goal I think is around 100" wheelbase, full hydraulic steering and body integrated armor for maximum clearance. I'll make a separate thread to keep this one on topic.

Because this truck is turning out super nice and because I didn't already have enough to do, I pulled the 300k mile 1UZ VVT-i drivetrain in favor of a 130k mile 2UZ VVT-i that's also 8 years newer AND it's already 4WD so no adapter needed. I'll be running a Toyota transfer case now. Simplified things quite a bit and I think the end result will be better. One step back I guess.

2UZ is all refreshed and dropped in, I need to trim the rear of my new engine mount brackets to clear the shock towers. Right now the engine sits way too far forward, I also had to trim off the exhaust flanges from the headers to clear the frame. This engine is certainly heavier than the 1UZ so I may need to adjust the right height slightly.
In other news, I got a Dana M220 rear axle and will be 5 linking the Montero to match. So long arm front with a sway bar and mid arm rear unbound should ride nice plus it's a more modern setup. I'll be running 3.73 ring and pinions which should be a little high but with 32's and the 5 speed auto it should cruise. I also decided to 86 the Toyota T-case (2.56:1) in favor of an NP241 (2.72:1) for a few reasons;
#1 is that I already have driveshafts from my other SAS'd Montero that I have since upgraded from 1310 to 1350 double cardan. Even though this truck is a V8 it's not going to see the abuse and won't have the lower gears to be an issue.
#2 I won't need to install another computer to shift the case via electric shifter
#3 I won't have the reliability issues of the electronic shift Toy case
#4 If I ever decide to upgrade to 4:1 it will be a bolt up

On to the engine management, this truck being as old as it is doesn't have any features that need integrated into the electrical system. So, It's getting a basic stand alone system and I've opted to have the PCM reflashed to reflect the vehicle equipment. VSS, secondary o2 and immobilizer have been deleted, they're also doing a performance tune good for a 13% increase in power which will give me more power and horsepower than the stock 1UZ.

I now have to redo some of the exhaust on this one because the 1UZ and 2UZ are different enough to not interchange. I need to install v bands on the headers and make a new Y pipe, luckily I already have the tubing and high flow cats from the old setup so it's mostly just labor. I sorta want to change the muffler to be less rowdy but since I already have one I'll probably give it a go ( Thrush Turbo 2).

***BONUS*** I got 5 NATO style wheels and scored a deal on some 32" BFG AT's, I'll be powder coating the wheels Ford Argent which is super close to the Mitsu Argent color found on the Gen 1 trim. Should look good.

The test fit revealed that my exhaust manifolds were going to interfere with the firewall and put me in a difficult spot along the frame to build the Y pipe off of. So, I cut both sides at the second to last primary and rotated the last pipe downward and that gave me just enough space. I then trimmed down the primary pipe I cut and welded it back together in it's new location. Unfortunately this also put my O2 sensor bungs facing the block, I plugged those and I'll need to weld new bungs in. I've opted for V band flanges at the collectors to clear everything the easiest.

Yesterday I put the transmission up into place so that I can make the engine and do my final test fit and make new mounts. I'll also be able to make a new Y pipe and hopefully after this it'll be the last time the engine has to come out.
I also got a new MAF housing coming, it will bolt to the original air box for a clean intake installation.Outlook-qigde23c.jpg
