1991 Ford F350 Diesel 4x4 w/Lance Truck Camper

This department on the forum has been very helpful and while looking at an Excursion the same dealer called a friend who has a 91 F350 4x4 Diesel with 41,000 single owner miles on it, who might sell it for $13.5K. Seems a bit high but price aside it looks like a great set up, especially with a young child and possibly another on the way. Is that price too high? Are the 91s reliable. I get it is different set up from the Excursion but I had never thought about a truck camper combo especially with an older truck. You guys seem to have great luck with older trucks. Please advise. Thanks JJ

That's low miles! Great find. But I think the price is to high. maybe go look at it?

A friend just sold a white 2001 F350 extended cab 4x4 diesel for $11,500 with 120K miles.

We need more info on the Lance camper

A late model Lance 10' or 11' camper in good condition could easily be worth 13K by itself.

An older 1990s era Lance 8' model in fair condition could be worth a couple of thousand or less

:Wow1: WOW talk about low miles!!! I can't comment on the Lance, but I can give you a heads up on the truck part of the package...

Great trucks imo. With the F350 package you also get the solid beam Dana 60 front axle that is very stout and reliable. The engine will be the V8 7.3 IDI (Indirect Injection) made my International and they are both very reliable and simple. They are a true work horse and they just don't give up! They use mechanical injection so there is no fancy computers or electronics (one 12v wire only) used to power the injectors and until 93.5 they did not come with a turbocharger from the factory.

There are a few quirks, but only one I would consider major and that would be cavitation/block worm that eats away at the cylinder walls and the engine will need to be replaced or overhauled with new a sleeve(s) once the damage is done. Is is not too common but it has been known to happen--luckly for me the po of my truck already went down that road before I bought it :sombrero: Other than that there are only minor problems that are few and far between for the most part. In the long run they are much cheaper to maintain and repair than the later Power Stroke diesel and with a turbo they put out about the same power compared to a stock (unmodified) 7.3 PSD as well. www.oilburners.net is a very friendly forum and offers a wealth of information--I would highly recommend joining the site and having a look around.

For upgrades I would install a pyrometer gauge first thing. It is vital that your monitor your exhaust temperatures with this motor especially if it does not have a turbo charger. That said a turbo will give you a huge boost in power and they can be found used for well under $1K if you decide to go that route. Check out the link in my thread. I hope preform a few modifications in the next few weeks that I will post there. Anyway I hope this helps. If you do end up buying it let me know I can share a few tips and helpful information.

Those trucks don't read over 100k and therefore turn over every 100k.

A single owner can claim any mileage in the world since the vehicle and it's title has never changed hands. Likely no Carfax on it either.

I would avoid it.....For all you REALLY know it could have 341,000 and not long ago stuff was freshened up.....Door panels-check wear around window, pedal pads, carpets, seats or seat upholstery etc, etc.
