SOLD will advise if anyhting falls through
Its a sad day, putting Monte up for sale. Instead of giving it away on CL I'm posting here first in hopes of finding some like minded individuals who see what I see in Monte:
A capable off road explorer
A cool looking square body style with round headlights
A practical utilitarian vehicle
Other great things about Monte are the excellent visibility, overall practicality-there are tie downs and tow hooks everywhere you need them, has a rack strong enough to carry some lumber, large cargo area in the back.
Runs and drives fine and has never overheated or even gotten close that I have seen. However I am pretty sure it needs a head gasket. I could be wrong but upon cold starts white smoke (quite a bit sometimes) that smells slightly sweet blows out of the tailpipe for a couple minutes then goes away. Also Monty uses some coolant (and doesn't have a leak..)I don't see any oil in the water or vice versa. Engine runs a little rough when cold. I still run around town on the weekends with no issues, however those symptoms should be addressed before any remote travel. Passed CA smog in 2013 with a new catalytic converter, I don't know if it will now or not, if the head gasket is blown, I don't know if that effects smog, sold as is. 140,000 miles. 4X4 works great, tranny works great, AT tires are probably 50%, stock, pretty much everything works, except the AC is not cold and the sunroof sticks. Interior is in good shape. New timing belt, starter, alternator, high flow air filter, plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor, windshield, various sensors here and there, recent battery, recent manual hubs, have new kyb shocks (not installed). Only 1 small area of rust (1"x1") under windshield. I have really enjoyed this vehicle. I'm selling because 1. I'm buying a new truck and 2. I don't really have time to tinker with Monte anymore.
