got to do a little work on this rig today:
we massaged the fender pinch welds, replaced a hard brake line and got the horn working again.
the horn was kind of like chasing your own tail.
we checked the relay and the horns and both seemed to be fine.
the steering wheel and horn assembly had some surface rust on them so we hit it with wd40 and a 3m pad. after everything was brightened up, the horn still didn't work.
i noticed it would honk three times and then stop.
the pin and spring assembly was getting stuck down in the cancelling ring.
we put some lube on there but it still was sticking.
i took a piece of emery cloth and brought the "hat brim" diameter down very slightly on the pin and that worked well.
we have some good horn action now.
next is exhaust. i have two mandrel bent u's that i will cut up for the angles and curves in the pipe. I've built several exhaust tailpipes like this and have always been satisfied with my own work over a muffler shop's.
soon i will cut the young man loose with his xj...
