Today's task was to remove the body from the dodge frame, and get it mocked up on a flat and level surface. The body was spaced 12" apart and then clamped.
The time has come, friends...let's dissect another Vanagon together ?
Very cool build! My grandfather did something somewhat similar years ago. In 1983 he purchased a brand new Chevrolet P30 motorhome chassis with a 6.2L diesel and TH400 tranmission; just a chassis with no body. He then scoured the salvage yards looking for body ideas. He ended up taking a Dodge full-size van and cutting it down in length to make a cab, took two Chevy square-body beds to make a wider fleetside bed to cover the dually axle (he didn't want fender flares like on traditional dually beds), and then filled in the gaps with various other body parts, including Ford Escort headlights, a Pontiac grille, custom-made hood, and custom-made wind deflectors. It was quite an aerodynamic rig for 1980's standards.
Let me apologize for my absence. After a dispute with my landlord (unrelated to the abomination), I wrapped up the project for a bit and started focusing on something a little smaller. I recently began turning the back half of the white van into an off road adventure trailer. Though I have not made any progress on the abomination, it has been therapeutic to see progress on something.
I will soon be looking for a new space to live and tinker, which will give me the freedom to continue with the monster project.
While taking a break from a much larger project, I decided to fill some of my time and expel some of my creativity into an adventure trailer. The base to the trailer is this, the cast off back end from my monster build...
Well, after spending the last couple of months wallowing in self pity, I pulled myself up out of a rut and finished the trailer I planned to build. It came out great and really gave my mind a boost.
That leads us to today. Why should things be so stagnant? Why should I shelf my craziest project yet? Why should I conform?!
