No new nuts every time... I'm in a bind here so I took it over to the shop that I use this morning...

Bad news: They think it's a warped Exhaust mainfold (I've never really heard of doing this, but they'll show me the parts etc.) I haven't heard from them for 2 hours so hopefully It's going to be solid and fixed... Good thing is wiht these guys, if they do smoemthing and it has ANY kind of failure or malfunction they fix it free on the spot wiht no appointment or cost to me (granted that's the way they SHOULD work, but I've found not alot of shops DO work that way) Incidedntialy this is the shop that has worked on this truck since my friend's dad bought it new in 89' so they know it inside and out.

As an aside, if the Mani. IS WARPED... That would explain the failures with the way the motor rocks around and what not, I can def. see it causing the nut or stud to fail eh.

Oh AND IT'S SNOWING off and on now... and me wihtout my 4Runner... GREAT!!!!! Oh well I think I'll have her back tonight eh.

if that's the case, then it's the perfect time to upgrade ;)

Never QUITE that lucky am I...

Well, just got the truck back and she's quiet as can be (aside fromt he typical 22RE "ticking" ;) )

Turns out I had blown out several gakets both the Mani. and a few of the down-pipe flange gaskets. PLUS, the nut had come off. BUT, they fixed it for me for only 70 bucks, not bad IMO as they had to take the exhaust apart and that's not even the afternoon's worth of shop time in some places...

I did have the put Lock-tite on the nut this time, and they checked when the exhaust was off, no problem with the stud threads...

All in all, I'm happy, would have been happier fixing it myself, BUT then I was busy today and couldn't really see time to do so before I jet out of town here this weekend.

IDAHO here I come.

Cheers

I've seen quite a few cases of warped exhaust manifolds on Yotatech...apparently it's not too uncommon for our rigs. Bummer, at least it didn't cost you much.

EEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

I'm not sure if I feel comfortable witholding that kind of information from your 4runner:elkgrin:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I know... I'm mostly doing it cause I'm really intersted in seeing how a 5spd Manual can change a truck I wasn't really keen on.

"Rover folkd talk about 'Personaility' and the 'experience' of driving a Rover... TO me, I see the 'personality' all over my driveway, and the 'Experience' seems to be refering to being towed off the trail... by a Toyota" DBK

Just playing for all those good hearted Rover guys out there eh. I will say though, that I've heard time and time again that Toyotas are just "boring" "mundane" "personality-less" trucks that, while great rigs, provide no intangable JOY TO DRIVE... To that I say: HOOOOOOEY...

Every morening I get in my 4Runner and I just get a grin on my face. I look out over tehat short angular hood and I think: "Maybe by some sort of cosmic dis-aray, I could be swept into a portal and dropped into the Australian Outback (been there, want to go back) and ya know what??? I'd feel right at home and I'd be ready to put'er to work on the station as soon as I got there... Then I come back to real life and ya know what... I'm still driving my burly little Bush Buddy. And you know what. I may even BUY a DI 5spd IF I like it... but it'll be an ADDITIONAL truck to my #1 baby, the Toyota... No ROVER will ever replace a Toyota 4wd in my "quiver" hell, somethings gotta get parts for the Rover, and ONE of the trucks has to be able to go to the trail, on the trail, and back home FROM THE TRAIL... That's what Toyota's are for...

Longwinded post over. BUT, It's my thread so who cares...

ANYWHO: Truck is fixed, didn't cost me much, and she's making me smile, mile after mile... I even got 8 free Exhaust studs and nuts from my buddie @ the shop... I'm just glad I could get it fixed in one day so I didn't have to drive my dad's XJ... LOVE the 4.0L's power (and it's proven to be quite a little beast out on the trail so...), HATE all the rattles and visibility out of it (or rather LACK there of - I can't sit comfortably AND see stop-lights above me. I'm just not designed for an XJ) I do like having back doors to load stuff when my STUPID back window is not working...
