1st Gen 4Runner: Price

Hi. I have been drooling over this 4Runner for several months now, and it is finally for sale. It is older than I am looking for, but I love the 1st gen 4Runners. My questions is, how much would be an appropriate price? I will do some searching through the 4Runner forums, but I won't have time until tomorrow so I figured I would throw this questions out here tonight.

It's very shiney, but I like the 5 speed and the 22RE. $3500 for a clean low mile 4Runner isn't too bad. It's on the high end of what you would likely pay for one like it anywhere else - $2800-$3500, I would think.

Do you know the seller or do you just see it around town?

I would try to find out as much of its previous owner history as possible. If there is 100K on the replacement engine, I would guess that's ok. Maybe a Carfax check, just to know as much as you can.

But if you already know all the background on it and the owner, I don't think $3500 is way off base.

It is always parked in front of a local business off the highway that I drive home on every day. I first noticed it over a year ago. Occasionally it has had a for sale sign in the window, but I wasn't in the market for a new car. Now I need on because mine is gone this week. I am leery about a 20 year old truck, but heck, I see many 80's Toyota's on here and I would love a removable top. It looks real cleanOf course, all that chrome will have to come off so I could recoup some money there, and the seller sounds like he'd drop the price if the stereo wasn't included. That set up looks like at least $1000 of stuff I don't need.

Two things:

1.) RUST! Make surw the shiny paint isn't hiding a nightmare.

2.) If it is as good as it looks in the picture it is a good deal.

It's an old truck but these trucks are worth spending the time/money to keep maintained if you get a good example.

If there truly isn't any rust then it is a fair price. I cannot find a decent one in my area, plenty for $2500 with rust and issues.

Seems like a fair price to me. One that clean here in San Diego, would be asking anywhere from $4,500 to $8,000. Depending on how much back rent the dude has!

I did a N.A.D.A. search.

Seems $3,500 is just about in the middle.

Start with an offer of $2,500 and see what happens.

May also be worth your while to do a pre purchase inspection. Including a compression test.

I would even be interested if it were "ExPo White"...!

Just be aware of the limitations of IFS. I would actually prefer a 1985 with solid front axle.
