I'm doubting Kaymar has one out yet, nothing on their site anyways...

I prefer your design ten fold to the SEMA product ;)

Christo, are you putting those struts/shocks (whatever you want to call them) on your other bumpers as well?

By the way, nice 200 series build.

I'm not saying Kaymar has one out yet. However they use the same handle opening/closing mechanisms for all their rear bumpers. Could put some black rubber moulding over the edges where the rear quarters had to be cut. That would look much cleaner.

I am working on a new latch design. Issue is cost and how to produce. For our bumpers that is the last part that looks like it was made for another purpose and then just used for the bumpers. So that will change in good time provided we can get a good quality latch made for a decent price.

We did not have the option to latch both to the bumper. The 200 is actually pretty narrow on the back and we ran into problems when we looked at that option. One of the issues with Kaymar has always been that the latches are kinda burried below stuff. On the tire carrier it is below the tire, as is the case with the carrier. So you always have to bend down to latch it. With this design you do not have to.

The purpose of this build was one, to produce a functional bumper that would have place for two jerry cans and one tire, and then secondly to see if it was even possible to produce something reasonably pleasing to the eye. When we pulled the rear bumper I was pretty nervous about tackling it and was not even sure it was going to work. We learned a lot that will eventually translate into production bumpers, but this was really a first stab.

As for the gas struts, something new for us, but used before by others. We will see how they hold up and if they work ok, we might introduce into our other bumpers.

As for moulding, we looked at that, but it didn't look as clean. If you look at all the other seams on the truck they are clean and precise with little to no moulding anywhere. Adding the moulding just did not fit the rest of the truck for me. I liked the clean look.

I think the bumper looks great, especially after seeing that shot of the rear with the factory bumper removed. I wouldn't know where to start! And I don't even want to know how many hours are in it....

Could start by putting the stock bumper back on and callin it good....... :victory:

Just kidding. I am sure a pad and pencil came out immediately to sketch some possibilities.

I had heard rumors that you had a 200 brewing! I like it, the rear bumper looks good. Especially considering the space on the 1/4s to fill up. Very nice!

Christo, I am always impressed with your forward thinking. I remember when you brought the 100 Series into view...

Nice work!

Much more overhang and lower to the ground.

Kaymar on a 200 series? I do not think I have seen one. As for the quarter panels, I think it looks really good considering what the options are for low volume bumpers. If one could mould a new plastic piece, that would be awsome, but not viable for the numbers we are working on.

The 200 has an insanely large areas on the rear bumper corners. We moved the tire carriers up so that we have less of a flat area from the step part of the bumper to where the quarter panel ends. This is what you have to work with before doing the bumper.

That looks like a good cross member to chop off build something that sits more flush with the rear and recreate that cross brace with new material that integrates the new bumper.

That is tough to work with! Something along the lines like they do with the 3rd gen 4runners.. Flush to the hatch.
