So, I have built countless rigs in the past. Too many to count in fact. But, I recently scored a mini-truck popup/cabover. Its a 90s SunLite and in pretty good shape now that I cleaned it up. It fits well in my 84 xtra-cab, but the truck is an absolute turd when its in there. Just not much I can do with a 22r motor. So, I have been on the lookout for something with more power.
I also have a 2008 Hyde Contender drift boat that I fly fish with. Problem is that the closest rivers to me are the North Platte In Alcova, WY, The Green in Utah, and the Big Horn river, in Northern WY/Montana. And its damn near a guarantee that I will hit a steady 20-30mph wind on the drive up. So, I needed something with power in relation to a 115hp 22r. I thought about Tacomas, but unless it was supercharged, I knew I wouldn't be happy with how it handled the weight.
I already have a 2001 Sequoia that I lifted and geared, and its been doing boat towing duty for the last year. Its geared right for the 33s and pulls the boat great.
But, I want to get to some more remote places to fish with the boat and the camper. So, I needed a pickup.
Browsing Craigslist, I found a 2000 Tundra V8 with 183K on it. It had a bad tranny in it. So, I bought it and then picked up a tranny from YotaJim's in Denver. Two days later she is running driving fine.
So, here is the build plan.
Toytec 3" Boss System. 650lb coils up front.
Deaver Progressive pack in the rear.
I will also add some air-bags to the rear as well for when the camper is used.
4.88 gears
LT285x75r17 Toyo Open Country A/T2s
Our front winch bumper
rocksliders
R&D a new rear bumper
The camper will run off two UPS deep cycle Xcel Energy batteries.
The boat in question as well:
