Go to astrosafarivans.org, in their tech forum they have a list of codes that you find on the passenger side door that will tell you what packages the van was built with. Mine has the much sought after G80/GT4 package which means that it came equipped with the tow package, limited slip rear diff, and 3.73 gears. I think 3.42s where much more common and deliver slightly better mugs, however are not as well suited to lifts/bigger tires...

There's also a rare Quigley conversion with hitop on Burlington craigslist right now. probably rustier than a Housto van...saw it posted on asv.

To be honest, i have always been a toyota guy....when i got my astro in April i had a trusted mechanic look it over.

The miles on that rig are a bit high but that is what keeps that price down, likely will have a ton more miles left in it with a little maintenance. I think with those miles the greatest fear would be the transmition depending on how it was driven and taken care of. (Others will likely have better answers) The rpo codes will tell you your gear ratio i am currently dealing with 3.42 with my lift and tires....it isn't perfect but it hasn't been the end of the world in power or mileage and mine is rather tall and heavy.

The body cladding can be removed with some patience....you can see mine with it removed. I haven't quite gotten to that in my build thread but i will be covering it soon. Feel free to message me with questions...

Check out astrosafarivans.org lots more answers there,

Good luck,

Ryan
