My 2002 100 Series will not turn over and start. Happened once a month ago but just one time. Now it wont turn over but just cranks. Any ideas where to start? Has 94000 miles, never been in snow or salt. Battery connections etc look great. Thanks.

sorry yes, it will turn over but not start. Yes, has half a tank of gas. Could my fuel pump be bad?

any ideas? I can hear the fuel pump working when I turn the key. Checked some of the fuses. Everything seems okay. What is the next step?

Crank position sensor...

Pump may be running, but if the injectors don't fire because they dont know where the engine is in the firing order then it wont run.

I just had the same issue with my 07. Check the fuses that relate to the fuel system and disconnect the battery for about 30 mins and then reconnect. It should reset the computer.

I disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes and then tried it and nothing. I did a code reader tonight but the code reader wouldn't work for some reason. It does have the red flashing car with a key in it flashing on and off by the clock. Could this be related? I will try the battery disconnect for 30 minutes. Thanks everyone for the responses thus far.

Red flashing car is the alarm... I think. You may have a fault in the alarm that is causing it to not start.

OR

see if it will fire by spraying starter fluid in the intake, if it kicks, then its fuel, if not, its spark.

Ooohhh boy. My brothers 99 had/has this exact problem. If you have the flashing light by the clock it is definitely the immobilizer. We have been fighting this for months. Couple of things that were suggested to us: check that you don't have another key win a chip on your key ring. Sometimes this can confuse the system as it reads what is right in front of the key slot.

Make sure you have a master key. There is a way to rest it using some brake pedal/ turn on/off the key in a sequence. Search on mud. Since my brother only had one key, we got another master and reset it through Toyota.

That worked for a while, but not for long. We then replaced the transponder coil and the amplifier that goes with it. Seems to be okay for now, but every now and then, it's acting up again.

The symptom is the same every time: he puts the key in, the red car light flashes, crank, but no start. He can usually try putting it in and out a few times and then the light will go off, but sometimes it's just dead. Very annoying problem. If you find a solution, we would be very grateful to know.

It's maddening because it's a great truck that is otherwise very reliable, the the stupid anti-theft thing will leave you stranded at random and with no hope of repair since it requires a tech stream enabled computer to even try to fix it.

Cheers!

There is a way to bypass it. U need to find the potentiometer and adjust it so the truck thinks its being towed. It will shut off the alarm system.

This sounds silly but ********** the steering column a few times.

Same issue happened to me in my Mustang years ago, it was the alarm. Got pissed off and hit the steering wheel, and then it worked lol i **** you not. Happened a few more times and the same procedure worked lol.

I know its not a ford, but you might get lucky!
