Those are beautiful welds.

Thank You, I wish I could take credit for them. Haha!

When I used to be out in the shop working, I could almost weld half that good, now I sit at a desk doing 3D design work, my welding skills are practically gone now.

The swing out carrier design rendering looks great, ToolBox Guy. Progress so far is outstanding. You pushed me over the edge, BTW. I've pulled the trigger on a used utility bed.

It's a ctec brand with a long horizontal cabinet on the driver's side, regular horizontal cabinet on the passenger side. No photos yet, it's being prepped/painted for next Friday's installation. I'm getting it from 4 Seasons Truck Center in Colton. I'll get photos soon.

C-TEC makes a quality box for sure.

Had I intended to use this boxing for camping, I would have been more involved with Pacific on the build, there are a few things that I want to change but it is a little late now.
I have thought about contacting Pacific to see if a trade-in would be an option for a box that had a little different geometry.

When you get the details done of your swing out latching system could you post pics? My Callen is set up with a similar single middle door. I'm trying to figure out a way to close a swing out behind me when I get in the camper, yet still be able to open it back up from inside. That way I can stealth, but also not be locked in.

Oh, as sweet truck. I was pretty close to doing a utility body with custom Callen but I decided to stick with the stock bed... for now. ;)

There's another friend in the neighborhood with just such a setup.
'05 3500 qclb 4wd, NV5600 w/utilitybed mounted Callen cabover shell. He's a finish carpenter and has plushed out the interior real well. Very practical guy. He's got a KORE setup on there with generic valving. Carli or Thuren could help him seal the deal. It's extremely heavy.

This may be a stupid question ,when considering buying a truck with a utility bed. do most of the inside dimensions of all of them have enough space to fit a pop up camper IE ; skamper 4 wheel camper, northstar?
I have ben dreaming of building one for years, but afraid to buy the truck without knowing.
Thanks for your time

I'm not sure about camper dimensions, I would say you would need to check with the manufacturer on their floor foot prints.

But between my box and the long bed high side box that I have in the yard, they are both exactly 49" wide on the inside. My short box is 76" I think, and the long box is right at 96", both with tailgate closed

Now when I ordered my box, I had to give them the width of the widest point on the back of the cab. That is the width they built the outside of the utility body to, keeping the 49" inside width.

Most FWC campers have a "two stage" step in the sides. They fit between the wheel wells, then "flare out" over the top of the wheel wells and then flare out again to fit over the bed sides, so they won't fit in a utility box (unless you have one or both custom made for it).

Got a little more progress made on the tire carrier. One afternoon a week to work on it, isn't quite enough.

My design needs some improvements, I will be pulling it off and adding another diagonal cross brace in the swing out to help eliminate the twist in it.

Lovin it!! This is the plan for my truck too. Unfortunately I had to unexpectedly by new tires (dry rot) so some of my mods will have to wait. But the suspension is close to adequate, then bumpers/winch, then utility bed!!
