So I have always wanted manual hubs and didn't know it was possible. Later I found out there was a kit you can buy to do this swap but it costed way to much $$$. Than I found out I can use 1st gen Tacoma manual hubs. The search was on. Tacoma manual hubs are imo super rare. My buddy ended up finding these on CL but 2.5 hours away. I had trips planned and didn't have time to go. Anyways 3 weeks later I hit the guy up and he still had them. This morning I spent 5 plus hours round trip to pick them up. Should be well worth it once it's all done. Basically I will be taking the hubs out of the taco spindles and installing just the manual hubs into my tundra spindles even though you can use the taco spindles assembly. The guy I got mine from drilled out the lower ball joint threads for whatever reason. Besides I rather use my spindles anyways.

Also maybe Addison can chime it. Since I'll be changing the hub and bearing. This will be a perfect time for me to get my spindle gussets welded in but I heard they interfere with the FOX 2.5 coilovers??

Do a writeup!

I'll try. I'm actually gonna have Marlin at Marlin Crawler swap the hubs for me. I just need to bring the spindles into his shop. From what I heard he only charge $25 a side. So $50 to have it all swapped. Since it's gonna be apart. I'm gonna see if he can weld the gussets in before install the new bearing. I have a link to where there is a write up on how to do it.

It's basically just a hub swap and than swap the outer cv stub

Might be the first IFS 1st Gen Tundra with manual hubs! I haven't seen anyone swap em in before.

It has definitely been done before. See tundrasolutions

Wish I was the first but it has been done. Back when even a smaller amount of tundra guys off-road them. We are the new generation bring the tundra back to the off road world.

Guess I'll be the first on expo with a manual hub tundra lol.

I did my manual hub swap about 2 years ago the hard way. I bought the Tacoma parts and then had to source the OEM tundra cv shafts to cut them up and make my new shafts. I learned the hard way that it all had to be OEM. Nice to see someone else do the swap also.

The information is very limited for tundra manual swap as the info is old and most the threads are outdated.

I have one taco OEM cv axle that I'm gonna take the outer stub and swap into the tundra axle. But I had to buy one aftermarket Tacoma CV axle. Hope they are the same spline count. Napa website shows tundra and taco both are 27 spline. I hope the factory shafts are 27 spline. I hate to run an aftermarket tundra inner.

I want to do this as well. I found the kit you mentioned earlier and was also turned off by the cost. This may be worth doing

Yeah the brand new option is $1000. I got lucky after a 5 hour round trip because these are uber rare imo to find for sale and not sold within an hour.

If the one you got looks like the one on top then you will be okay. I found out the hard way that the aftermarket shafts have a different outer joint spline count. The stock joint if I remember is 32 and the aftermarket is 27. I cut up two aftermarket ones and that's how I found out.

Well the problem is I only have one factory taco axle. I had to pick up an aftermarket taco axle to rob the outer from. The aftermarket on the website says its 27spline but I have factory tundra axles. So it looks like I won't be able to rob the outer from the aftermarket outer. I doubt I'll be able to find a factory taco axle used. My only option is to get an aftermarket tundra axle as those are 27 spline as well. Which sucks because the aftermarket inner isn't the same design as the factory
