Updated information
In the midst of offering this for sale I hit a deer. Car has now been repaired. I was originally asking over $10k, now at $7500 for ExPo listing. It is a very nice XC with some minor cosmetic flaws. That said, it still has fewer, scratches, nicks, door dings etc. than virtually every other XC I come across. The interior is immaculate and it drives like a brand new car.

Ramping up on home remodels, could use cash by I may be open to trades, let me know what you're thinking. I'd be willing to include my Montero (stage 0 maintenance, ready to roll) for someone who wants to get out of daily driving their exploration rig and use the Volvo as a commuter/roadtripper and the Montero for trails.

Details:
This one does have a "rebuilt" title from an accident at 64k before I bought it. I checked over the repair, fixed a couple of shortcuts, better repaired some sheet metal/paint and undercoated anything "behind the scenes". I can show any prospective buyer the repairs.

I have too many cars (4 in use and 1 in long-term storage) this one gets used the least. I bought this in 2012 when I was on my own, with one dog and regularly traveling to Oregon. It is a dream cruiser on the highway, can handle any weather and can take you down anything but true high clearance 4WD roads or Jeep trails. Fast forward. I now have 2 dogs and a GF who does most trips with me. She has a dog too. She has an Outback she likes to take on trips when we don't need my van. The XC70 is tons nicer than the Subaru but I never mind saving the wear and tear on it. I also just bought a Montero for our "rougher" road needs. I've been hesitant to sell it as some day my daily (VW Passat) will need to be replaced...and this thing is the primary candidate. But, for now, four cars is too many for me to shuffle.

It's the nicest car between us...as such I don't like putting dogs in it so it doesn't see much use any more. Mostly parked in my garage.

At any rate here it is:

Of note to Expo folk. This is a great dual purpose/light duty off-pavement cruiser. Also available, now for $300 as a package or $500 separately are brand new-in-the-box "Bad Swede" 2" lift kit (springs, isolators, camber kit). These are no longer available and I wanted to grab a set of springs while still available. Not many people have these but those who do really like them and it gives the xc roughly 10" ground clearance. Also notable is factory springs on these things are known for sagging and breaking so updating and upgrading the springs is wise. With these installed you can run 225/70-16 (Geolander, BFG AT/MT) or 215/70-16s (Geolander, BFG AT/MT, Gen. Grabber).

I have 225/65-16 D-Load cargo van snow tires for winter and they clear perfectly at stock height. The thing is, literally, a tank in the snow, while cruising in comfort and getting 25 mpg.

Oh! The front passenger seat folds forward (manually, not power) like an old 2 door car. This, and the fact that it is fairly wide for a car, allows me and the 2 dogs to literally stretch out, super comfortably, if we are sleeping in it.

Taking $500 off. New price is $10,000.
Local ad will reflect the change to a "obo" price tomorrow.

To the top. new price is $9k as I need to get more serious, I want to remodel my bathroom.

Volvo had 87k when I placed this ad, now it is pushing 88.5k. I make sure it gets regular use but my VW is the daily driver. We've been using the Montero for trips.

Fresh, full syn oil change, I just replaced lower torque mount, checked upper (it's fine). Nearly new snow tires included so you're 100% ready for winter with this. Needs nothing.

Trans fluid was replaced with the proper stuff at 67k, so now worries there. If you research these cars you'll learn transmission maintenance is key to long-life.

I shouldn't, but I'd also be willing to talk trade for an AWD Express van or a Westy. I think I'm acquiring vehicular ADD as I get older...owning a home with a garage is a powerful thing!!

Bad news for me but possibly a cheap XC for the right buyer. Never know what handy folks may be interested in. I recently took the XC up to Yellowstone for a week of backpacking. Was loving driving it, cruise set at 85 on the way up getting nearly 30 mpgs. I managed almost all of the ~700 mile round trip on one tank. Calculated 30.9 mpgs on that tank, to be exact. Refueled with 530 miles on the tank and about a gallon left in it. Unfortunately I hit a deer leaving Star Valley WY on the way home, some of that awesome tank was run with the damage. Insurance is 100% willing to fix it. Even with the already rebuilt title they estimate the value of the car at $9500 and the damage at ~$3400. "These Volvo wagons hold value like gold" was the insurance adjusters comment. He wasn't even considering preventative maintenance I've done or a few extras this one has. Namely the HU-850, 200 watt dolby surround performance stereo, DSTC (stability control), Im-IV ipod integration and a nearly new set of Nokian snow tires ready for winter. AND the Bad Swede 2" lift springs I've got sitting on my shelf. Brand new springs in the box with necessary camber kit and spring isolaters. The company that took over for Bad Swede is selling springs only, with a waiting list, last time I checked.

Though the trip made me want to keep the car (hardly felt the deer impact) I'm still wanting to simplify life. Car is currently available fully repaired and detailed for the previous price of $9000. That's $500 below the estimated value from the insurance company and it will have a new hood, front bumper, lights and time on the chassis alignment rack at my insistence (to quell any concerns about misalignment from this or the previous accident at 64k). I will provide invoices for everything.

OR, just throwing this out in case someone is interested in a cheap XC:

For those who like to do things themselves and are handy with light body work (mostly panel replacement and paint) You can have a mechanically excellent, maintained, low mileage XC70 for $6600. It is perfectly driveable as is. Test drives are welcome/encouraged.

mileage is currently just over 90,000 miles

Damage needing repair is: replace hood, replace bumper cover and bumper pad, replace RF fog light & headlamp cluster, replace washer fluid reservoir.
If a mechanically functional car was your primary interest the headlight cluster is the only thing truly needed. The hood can be manipulated (but will never be correct again, it is aluminum). The bumper cover can be reattached to the RF bumper bracket and a screw/rivet used to add additional stabilization (not required). The only crack in the bumper cover is about 3-4" long. only break on the washer fluid reservoir is the neck/cover, it currently is still holding ~85% full of fluid and never leaked a drop on impact. Fog lamps could be replaced with upgrades and you wont feel bad mounting to this bumper cover however you feel fit. The misalignment visible on the hood/fender is from upward bowing of the hood.

Anyway, here's the pic I took at the gas station following the accident (hence the stained pavement underneath)...AND the picture I took of the gas mileage I got on that one tank. The trip computer on these consistently reads 1-2mpg below calculated mileage. Obviously more pics available to anyone that may be interested...with a real camera as opposed to my phone camera.

Bears mentioning the cooling system and RF fender on the vehicle was untouched in the collision. Also the upper cross-member (radiator support/tie bar) appears unaffected but this is why I'm demanding the vehicle be "tied down" as part of the repair. The deer impact, however, did not affect the way it drives/tracks and the tire didn't have so much as a scuff on it.

insurance paid no problem. No questions. No hassle.the car was fully refinished when I purchased it. I also had a bank loan on it when I first purchased it, I no longer do. Neither the bank nor the insurance company had any problems with a rebuilt title.I double checked with both before I purchased and they said it was normal. My insurance is progressive, my bank was Wells Fargo.

What is the status of the Volvo? Repaired or still damaged? Also what is the price of the Montero? I am looking at a Volvo to upgrade over my GF Legacy. What year Outback does your GF have? I have 2 an 02,03 both LL bean. Im looking for something with better mpg for my gf but similar to the LL Bean. She has a Legacy now and she wants more comfort. Was looking at the v50 wagons but they are ugly. An XC is way cooler looking. This is just a feeler so let me know some info. Thank you.

Sorry I missed this. Figured I'd let the thread fade while I moved to the next stage, as follows:

The status of the Volvo is that I took the check from Insurance company. After visiting a couple more body shops and removing the bumper cover myself I could tell they overestimated the damage. Considering the "rebuilt" title I figured there was no reason try to make this car perfect again and try to sell top dollar...It's going to go to someone cheap instead! It despite cosmetic imperfections, the interior is near perfect and runs/drives beautifully.

SO I straightened the hood and repaired bumper cover (bumper cover NOT the structural bumper which was not damaged in any way, shape or form), not replaced them. I am waiting on a brand new replacement headlight and then will have the front corner of hood painted. Once I have the headlight in I'll be updating the pics and offering it for sale at $7000 That makes it a cheap, low mileage, nicely equipped and maintained XC70. The damage will be noticeable to anyone who knows about it or hand washes the car. Otherwise you'll have to really look to see it.

Montero is not officially for sale yet but I'd be looking for something in the neighborhood of $4k considering all the maintenance recently put into it (off the top of my head: T belt, WP, valve guides/seals/lifters, brake discs and pads, shocks, ball joints, sway bar links, radiator, new 31x10.5 tires and A/C service) .

My GF has an 05 OBXT with a manual trans, leather and premium stereo with sub. The ONLY thing I like better about the Subaru is the manual transmission. The Volvo is bigger (for passengers and cargo behind rear seats), quieter, much better ride characteristics, more comfortable (by long, long way), better stereo (by long, long, long way) and more efficient. Based on the amount of work her Subaru has required at a similar age and mileage as my Volvo I'll even say that the Volvo is more reliable. It is definitely, in my opinion, better built. Subaru parts, however, are cheaper and good Subaru mechanics in this part of the country are a dime a dozen.

I always think her Subaru sits squareley between my Passat wagon and XC70 on the spectrum of fun to drive/luxurious ride. With manual trans, Bilsteins, a chip and non-raised suspension the VW is just plain fun. The Subaru, with the turbo and manual trans keeps a bit of fun in the equation, upgraded suspension would help a lot in that regard, it gives up fun for the utility of ground clearance. The Volvo trades in a bit more fun for being a very comfortable car. You definitely notice it is built from the ground up as a more "premium" vehicle.
