2006 (Gen 3) Montero Limited

Hey All. Big fan of the site. My first time posting.

I am the original owner of a dealer maintained, 2006 Montero Limited (Gen 3). I am now selling, and prefer selling to someone who appreciates Monteros!

Extremely well-maintained Montero. All dealer service records, non-smoker. Very clean interior. As good on the highway and in city, as off-road and in snow!

A/C is ice cold. All scheduled maintenance, and all dealer service records. Looks and drives great. Easy to drive and park. 158K highway miles (commuting to Mammoth Lakes). Perfect first car or family car. Seats are in very good condition. The comfortable 1st and 2nd row leather seats fold into a giant bed. Also has 3rd row / seven-passenger seating, plus giant moon roof. V6 engine does a great job on mountain highways (and freeway entrance ramps), yet also attains decent gas mileage. Definitely better fuel mileage than my Lexus GX470 (4Runner).

Being the original owner, I know specific / proactive services completed on this vehicle. New catalytic converters, water pump and timing belt, new battery, OEM shocks, dealer maintenance, moon-roof track cleaned and re-aligned, replaced AC fan, new rear weather stripping, excellent all terrain tires, brakes, all fluids maintained, etc. This is critical to help a Montero surpass 350K+ miles. My Montero was just re-examined by the top Mitsubishi service department in California. As I type this, the vehicle is being detailed and waxed.

I have the rear, matching color Mitsubishi OEM tire cover in storage (not shown in pictures). I will also include after-market items: Yakima roof-rack cross-bars, three rows of Montero-specific WeatherTech floor-mats, professionally installed auxiliary jack, and the trailer hitch. Vehicle has never towed. I can also sell you my Yakima RocketBox (shown in pictures). This Montero does not have the silly rear seat DVD player or rear spoiler (options as new).

For those unfamiliar with Montero's, this SUV is like a more affordable Land Cruiser...or a more reliable Land Rover. I have owned a Toyota LandCruiser, and a Lexus GX470. This Montero is as refined and capable as those (more expensive) vehicles. Montero is better than the 4Runner, at half the price. 2006 was Montero's ultimate year in the U.S., with the best exterior and interior design, the most horsepower, and improved electronic stability control. This carbon grey metallic (grayish blue) color is the best color. This is a California car, so no rust.

Hoping to sell to an enthusiast who will show this Montero a great life! I currently have it listed on AutoTrader for $8,900 and Craigslist Los Angeles for $9,000.

2006 montys had the most horsepower?
I didn't know that, I figured 03-06 all had the same horsepower

What mileage was the timing belt changed, I believe mitsubishi recommends every 60k, so it's been changed 2x?

I haven't googled it in a long time, but yes the Gen 3 (2003 - 2006) have the most horsepower, and increased stability control. Of the Gen 3's, the 2005 and 2006 have the cleanest styling.

I am on the phone with Paul at Mitsubishi Glendale's service department. The vehicle's timing belt and water pump were both changed in 2015 at 144K, so it has only been 14K or 15K miles. He stated normal / max conditions for the Montero timing belt and water pump change is 90K, with severe conditions at 60K. He stated at that 2015 (144K miles) time frame we also did the complete tune-up, with fluids, filters, spark plugs, etc. He is looking in the Mitsubishi service databases to find the original time I changed it. Paul also said feel free to call him directly to vouch for the vehicle! He is in Mitsubishi Glendale's service department at 818-550-1500. Paul collects Montero's and LandRover Discovery's. He is the best Mitsu Montero service guy in California; very cool and honest. Believe me, I've tried a handful of Mitsubishi service departments in both NorCal and SoCal.

The only difference between any 2003-2006 limited is whether or not it has side impact airbags, the color of the info display and the moonroof glass being tinted dark or having the "metal lines" in it to block the sun. There are other small differences in part numbers but they are 99.9999% the same vehicle. The only difference between any 03-06 exterior wise is the wheels or the rear spoiler.

That said my 03 and 06 do drive ever so slightly different. The 03 is quicker and the 06 is more planted feeing. Tires not the culprit. I like the 06 better for some reason. Just has a different feel to it.

super nice truck in my favorite color. Wish it was closer and I was looking.
