Hi there! I am Winter. Totally rookie in here and also rookie into the LR3 HSE

I used to drive Jeep Grand Cherokee, just got my 06 LR3 couple days ago. I was pretty sure the engine and the transmission are all great when I checked.
BUT I was wondering.....

Still premium fuel...when it has been 10 years? Is there a possibility that normally it works with 87,like city or hwy
and only use premium when off road or something wild? Is that a bad idea for this vehicle?

Thanks!!

Welcome Winter.

Still premium fuel. Age doesn't change the cars requirement.

You can use 87 if that's all that is available - the car will adjust timing as needed to prevent engine damage. But when it adjusts you will also lose fuel economy, which negates your "savings" at the pump.

Yes, buying premium does cut into the fuel budget a bit, but that's the case with many 'premium' vehicles it seems. My BMW was that way, my Audi was that way. I think even the Toyota FJ Cruiser used premium (and that's certainly not a 'premium' vehicle)

Hey Winter! Welcome to ExPo and LR3 ownership. Let me echo what the others have said here. I have a thread on page 2 or 3 of this forum titled "a little overwhelming". Just recently I was inquiring about my fuel economy as I've noticed a huge dip as of late. Long story short, I'm proof that using 87 isn't the best idea. Just this past weekend I finally figured out why my mpgs have been so ****ty...yep, using 87. Was on a wheeling/camping trip with some buddies and just happened to fill up with 89, and was stunned with the difference. Avg 19+ mpg for a good 50 miles running 60mph. That was riding with a 1" lift, 31.5" tires and a roof rack. In my 5 months of lr3 ownership, I've never sniffed that kind of economy. Not only is the fuel economy better but the power difference is very noticeable. In fact, had I filled up with 89 or higher before we left, I probably wouldn't have gotten stuck on the trail... haha. Such is life. Hope this helps and enjoy your "new" ride.

As others have noted; 87 is a false economy. In truth I only use it for my lawn mower (def not my vehicles, and not chainsaws either!).
Welcome to the madness, treat your LR like she's spoiled in terms of maintenance and things like fillups, but drive the crap out of it b/c they respond to flogging!

OK so premium it is! Thank you!

Thank you! Actually I was back and forth between FJ and LR3. Both are great vehicles. I hope I made the right decision :D

Yep, it does make sense. Thank you!By the way here is another issue. I found and checked like 6 LR3s include SE HSE around my area before I bought mine.

They all got a same problem, the dashboard is full of cracks, that looks really NOT pretty.....

Could it be fixed easily?

I found the custom Dashboard mat for LR3 online but I prefer to believe there are some better ways:D

Sadly the mat is probably the best way to go, my dash is starting to show at the passenger side airbag and I feel like that's an uphill battle against the sun out here-but I do try to cover it when I'm at work. If it ever gets really bad I'll probably go to a mat solution.

I saw a cool dash mat with zipper pockets. It was for a RHD Disco, but could be easy to has a local shop add pockets.

OH....no... : D
I also found the used dash set online and it will cost like thousand bucks.
But I think it may causing other issues from air bag or something else if I want to replace the whole dash part.Right?

Seems like mat is the most economical way to go....
