when a foreign diplomatic corps imports a vehicle, they sign paperwork saying they can only sell it to another diplomat. you also have the issue of the diesel never passing an EPA exam.
the vin is likely register-able at the counter in most states. i could slip it thru PA easy. i'm not familiar with CA, but i bet that state has alarm bells for just about any nuance.
i did look and it hasnt been touched by a registered importer for paperwork, or at least its not in the system. its hand done, but if this was legal 2 years ago it aught to be in the system.
the good news tho, its there is one investigator in DC for the entire country looking for this particular type of dark grey, and its not likely hes after one car sold against a legal agreement signed by a guy from nicaragua that went home years ago.
basically, i'd buy it, if i wanted it, and i wasnt ever going to resell it. think of it as willfully participating in a crime as the victim, as the VIN should clear, its USA 17 digits, it was brought in legally, its not a vin swap, and it does belong to that car ("y61" is in it). to resell though, is to perpetrate. i wouldnt do that, because id feel horrible if someone lost 20000 to a crusher, or an insurance company wouldnt pay in bad accident, etc.
unlike most of the car cruncher tragedies, it appears the car is legally here in the US, just citizen ownership isnt. LOL.
