Looking great so far. reminds me of one I built a while back. I won't clutter up your thread, but maybe I'll share some photos in the other "flatbed ideas" thread.

updates

So we started with bending today.
We were able to make 4 bends and they all matched the first time....I was glad of that, sometimes tubing likes to do what it wants and bend crazy like, but we made sure this tubing stayed in line.
Then on the rear section... on the bed side we welded the tubing on. Again with Dustins magical TIG welds we had to grinding zero times.

After we discussed a few options for how to run the back up lights and tail lights and license plate me came up with a design that will french the LED rear lights and HELLA back up light flush with in the tubing and it will be protected when precarious situations arrive yet still function well and look good. We are welding in sheet metal in the rear corners sections and flush mounting the LED tail lights into that and the middle section is perfect width for two HELLA micro FF lights and the plate. ( that was by dumb luck)

So tmrw we finish the lighting and then start in the wheel well cut outs for full flex no rub.
After that I will weld the rear head-bar and build the cross bars front to rear and then to paint and then to the canvas shop.:26_7_2:

We do have one trick up our sleeve that will be unveiled when we get the design finished, its simple and should work well.

Looks good. The TR6 looks pretty good, too. My father had a 1972 TR6 when I was a kid - loved that car.

Thanks, yep that is a customers car, its been restored. Its in the shop for a major mechanical "sorting out" after the resto it sat for 5 years...as so many do.
so we have replaced all the brake parts, hard and soft lines, wheel cylinders, pads, shoes, master cylinder, all new suspension and steering pieces, currently getting a bunch of new switches and steering column work. also waiting on a new set of the TR6 "red strip" tires that are on back order till 2096 it would appear....

Good eye but can you guess whats behind the TR6, and not "Tow Mater" The Dodge truck from the movie Cars, the one next to it...Hint its also a Dodge...but way faster...

Winner winner chicken dinner, yes a true GLHS.....Bout to be a restored GLHS.

Which Porsche? the 356?

Me I like the beast otherwise known as the 930...with a little 935 in the engine.

Thanks on the bed.

almost finished with the heavy work

After today's longer than expected tail and turn light fab work, we are happy with the out come but would have liked a little easier and cleaner install, but after paint and some more finish work it will be fine, look good and be very protected and strong.

Pretty much after this weekends work we accomplished the side and tail sections. I thought we would get to finish more but its good to have this much done.

Ive been contemplating the gas filler relocation and I have a few different ideas but not strikes me as perfect. If anyone has any idea's or knows of a flatbed "kit" for the relocation of the filler please let me know.

I'm eager to get the rear upright finished and get it to the canvas shop.

The hurdles now are
1 gas fill relocation
2 wood for bed, seal and install
3 take it all back apart and have it painted
4 build rear upright and take to canvas shop
5 build spare tire mounts

After the heavy build work is finished, I can start on the interior, fridge, water, storage, stuff.....

A little more progress

So after finishing up the tail light section. We started on the wheel arch and rub rail. This wasn't very hard to do but it did arch the whole bed after the welding was finished. So we had to straighten it. We built a jig and used a bottle jack to push the middle back in line again. Kinda a pain but it worked. The wheel arches look good and with the added rub rail it makes the center section very strong.

Will continue on the floor and the rear section this week. I hope to have it to the canvas shop to have a cover made by the end of the week. we will see if that happens.

Take it easy.....

Start of the rear section and canvas frame.

Inside this 6' "interior" section will be my fridge, water, storage and sleeping arrangements.
Still some work to be done but almost done welding.
Then comes the fun stuff getting all my gear back together and mounting it all up. No more RTT so pretty minimal gear with a few comforts.

Very nice work. I like how it's taking shape.

What are your plans for decking? Also, what are your states requirements for bumper/frame height for that GVWR class vehicle?
