2007 Dodge CTD Build

Here's the build of my 2007 5.9 CTD. The snorkel is from Expeditioneers and is made in Australia. I've installed a complete set of Power Wagon skids, including the PW steering stabilizer skid which needs a bit of modification to install on a diesel. I wrote a “how to” article and posted over on the “dieseltruckresource” forum at:

http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ering-damper-skid-plate-t191948.html?t=191948

It has the Kore Recon suspension upgrade, Carli Long Travel Air Bags, a Warn 12000lb Winch, and Hella off road lights. The engine is completely stock for reliability. I just picked up a “Ready Welder II” and stowed it on board. All I need to do is install onboard air and then I'll have the truck the way I want it.

The truck is equipped with a high power HF ham radio for reliable world-wide communications. The radio is a Yaesu FT-857D which drives a Henry Radio SS-750 mobile amplifier. The amp runs just about 1 KW output on all bands except 15 and 10 meters where output drops to about 700 watts. The Henry amplifier necessitated the addition of a booster battery nearby so there's a gel battery mounted under the back seat. There is also an APRS/GPS tracking radio on board which allows the truck to be tracked via the internet from anywhere in the world. If you'd like to see where the truck is this very minute click on this link:

http://aprs.fi/?call=K6ON-4&mt=m&z=10&timerange=86400

The truck has a much modified 1996 “Four Wheel/All Terrain” Hybrid Camper. I've installed dual Die-Hard Platinum gel batteries in the camper, a 1.5 KW inverter, an Engel 45 freezer, a Microwave oven, removed the “Ice Box” and converted that area to a pantry. A 5 gallon Specter fuel can is mounted on the rear of the camper. New soft sides, new arctic pack, and added storage cabinets have been installed.. I also installed dual “fantastic fans” which really make a difference in the warm weather.

For power, I have a small Yamaha 1 KW generator which will run the microwave and charge batteries if I'm parked for several days at a time. Counting the camper batteries, the vehicle has 5 large gel batteries. The alternator has been upgraded to a 275 amp unit.

I'm retiring the end of this year, and first major trip with the rig will be four months heading north to British Columbia, Yukon Territories, Alaska, and Northwest Territories. Lots of fishing, photography, and hunting.

See you all at Overland Expo in a couple weeks.....

Photo's 1 &2 how it looks now.
Photo 3 Rear seat flipped up and all the electronics exposed.
Photo 4 The most difficult mod: drilling a 4" hole in the fender:Wow1:

Nice setup! How about some interior photos of the camper.

Steady with that drill!

Nice job, I love Dodge builds. I just added a Buckstop bumper, leveling kit (because of the bumper), and an Aerotank replacement fuel tank. 60 gallons, with my 3000# camper at 12mpg 720 miles, without the camper about 17-18 1060-1140 miles, now that's a tow vehicle.

Hey Marc, Yours ain't too shabby either...
Got the gas struts on the camper this weekend..can sit on the couch and raise the rear of the camper with one hand...Once the struts are extended, you have to pull each end of the top down...Should have done that long time ago.

Thanks to all..I'll post some camper pictures tomorrow.

I hope that retirement tour includes a swing through the northern Rockies, in particular Yellowstone Country...

This truck is by far the nicest Dodge & camper combo I've seen up close & in person. The comm set-up is dizzying and the new snorkel really tops it all off.

Hope you have a safe trip to Amado, Bob!

Hey KC

Going to miss seeing you there..

Saw your old/new FWC last week and the Reno folks you sold it to,
the boys in Sacto wired it up for him and added a roof rack..very nice fellow.

And yes, I'll swing through your neck of the woods on that little tour...

They were super nice folks. They already had a VW Westfalia and a Fleetwood Evolution trailer... serious outdoor enthusiasts! I was almost willing to trade the Hawk for the Evolution, until he told me how heavy it is to tow...

The Hawk had a Yakima rack & crossbars already..? You think they added a new one? And I was told they could get wired up in Reno, without having to go to Woodland. But as usual there, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing...

I may be going 'hybrid' myself soon...

Perfect timing! This is going to be a great inspiration as I am considering a similar truck

Quick question, does the 2007 5.9 CTD requires ULSD? I forgot when the actual switch happens.

ULSD wasn't required until 2007.5 and the 6.7 Cummins

It will say it on the fuel guage, the 5.9 will say "Diesel Fuel" and the 6.7 will say "Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel only"

Looking forward to checking out your truck when you are down this way... My wife probably won't like the ideas I get, but oh well. :)

They didn't get it wired in Woodland...Marty & Jeff took care of it for them.
