Well, we are into it, did the transmission mount today, and ran all the lines for breathers, plus started cleaning up electrical in the engine bay. big jobs that take time to keep looking clean.

setup:

Breather location, have filters on them as well.

As for todays work, got most lines in the engine bay tidied up and did the steering rack. plus front diff breather is finished. its a bit of slow work due to time constraints. I guess it could been seen as all the work I do as these wagons seem unreliable, but I'm just super picky on parts changing prior to failure as in my travels I do not want to spin spanners. This ol girl has yet to leave me stranded, cause even when the gear box failed I only lost 3-5th so it could still limp home.

Out with the old:

In with the new:

Steering rack is fully installed today, just need to get some oil, also sorted out the alignment to good enough to get me to a shop.

As for engine bay work, I installed the egt probe. ill tape the wires up later as I still have another sensor to run that way. slowly coming together.
I always choose cylinder #4 for the egt probe as it in theory should run the hottest dues to being furthest away from cooling and honestly, I've been doing it that way from day dot, and I haven't popped an engine so why change it.

Got a bit more done today, as I have been busy lately. so it breaks up my day.
but today i knocked out the boost gauge under bonnet, cleaned up the egt setup. also got my hood latch safety catch working again. just little items that slowly add up. found a 1/8npt weld on fitting for my trans temp sensor as well.

Did a fire up test on the steering rack and all works well without any leaks, although now my steering wheel makes a slight rubbing noise on the fire wall so I will sort that next week.

Got the battery bracket welded up. its a bit rough but will hold till I get my hands on a welder:

Also got some interior LED lights installed:

Well I did a thing today, besides getting a 90 day visa for Iran... I went out and got a Webasto diesel heater for the tent. nor I need to fit all this before we roll out. Ill be busy busy

Decided on the smallest available, 2kW in size. I got an extra temp probe for in the tent so the heat control works since it wont be recircing the air.

Its quite tiny, so it should be to hard to find a home.

Did the design for my heater setup today, then went to shop that does ally work, they will fold up my little box for me and ill have it for saturday next week, painted black. should do the job. and will look smart, we are doing a hinged door with locks as well to prevent theft instead of bolts. so Im quite happy with that.

Got myself some covered area for work! what a win.

I was straight into it today, engine is ready for valve clearances and all oil leaks to be sorted. happens over time sadly, but easy enough to do. also have new injector lines. So my next 2 days are fully booked.

The guide is still in great shape and internally is spotless. you take of your rig and it will take care of you.

I will also finally be removing the egr bracket, as its heavy and dead weight, just finally have access to it now.

It was hammer down today, nailed the top end, which is all back together. only 1 valve was out of adjustment. the rest all good which is fantastic. Also started hooking up the electrics for the rear factory diff lock. mounted the compressor and started running wires. it will be completed tomorrow.

New plug for the compressor

Solar install wiring almost complete.

Well, we leave on the 8th... and its the 4th, well it just ended. so my time is getting down thats for sure.

But good progress is being made, the complete service is done, engine and trans.

Then it was onto repairing the bash plate bolts, now running M10 machine head bolts.

Some cool stickers for our travels:

And finally, I am trying to open the mirror up. will have a crack at it tomorrow as I have LED bulbs to replace in it. If there is anyone with info on removing them that would be amazing

The heater install is moving along well, I should have the box tomorrow evening to mount.

But for now I have created a custom harness for the tent and into the car.

And I have sorted out fuel:

A big day today, with all the upgrades almost complete. All I have left to do is finish the heater mods.

But I did get all the tent electrical sorted:

Thermometer:

External plug for power and heater control:

Controller:

And the custom box arrived today that I will install in the rear door.

And of course since we are heading back into sand and rocky terrain, it was time to reinstall the beast of a trans bash plate:

And I am back at cutting cars apart.

So tomorrow I will clean the final install up, but otherwise it fit well, although very tight with the rear tyre. but it is what it is, as I only have tomorrow left which is to empty, clean and pack the wagon. well along with finish installing the 90* bend for the heater output. But it did the 10 minute fire up test run and pumped some serious heat, all cabling in the tent operated as it should, I just need to make a plug for the thermometer inside the tent. easy job tomorrow as it is half done.

Final install with cover on. Just need to run a small bead of sealant around the outside for a clean look. Once again a tomorrow job as the sun was setting as I finished tonight.

Final photos tomorrow of the wagon in all its glory. lol

Tomorrow we are off and running. I sealed up the heater box today, added the 90* bend for the heater hose and in a rush added a storage setup for the hose.

Threaded pipe for attaching the hose for the tent, went with plastic as it was all I could sort out today, It should handle the heat alright though.

And the super agricultural setup for the hose, I know it rough but we are down to minutes left for finishing the wagon and I had to run all my good tools to storage before it closed at 5pm... such is life. but it will work, and honestly probably last for ages.

This should be the last update for a while. its time to hit the road, so you can expect blog updates and posts in the thread I have going here.

Well we are day 3 on the road powering to the Iran border, we cross on saturday. last night we tested the heater I installed, kept the tent a balmy 15-20c all night. which was great as it was about -4 out and snowing all night. All the work has paid off as the wagon is running top notch and everything working as it should.

Been a long while since an update. I am flying to Armenia to sort out the wagon. I have a few goodies showing up. I have an ARB air pressure digital controller which I will hook up to my airbags for ease of use. I have also sorted a new fan and hub clutch plus some sensors for spares.

The biggest item though, Is the jonny tig intercooler, I have patched out intercooler once already, and that patch has once again failed, so its time to upgrade. plus I dont have to worry about the intercooler taking an impact as I have bent the bush skin plates into the factory intercooler. She has had a few big impacts.

I have made it to Armenia, and got the ol girl out of storage. started without a boost which was impressive for sitting for 7 months.

All washed up:

Did an inspection on the intercooler, just to find the crack, shes a big one.

And stripped to street mode for running around town and repairs.
