I hope to start a build thread for the Grand in the next couple of weeks. I think I have the general plan in my head and the parts. Unlike my last Jeep this one will be rather mild.

But like all good Aussies I have the ARB for the front due to arrive early next week.

Anyone catch Fourwheeler Magazines coverage on the Diesel Grand in the FWOTY. IT's funny that they finally put a V-8 5.3L 300hp in the H3 and it and the NEW 6.2L nearly 400HP H2 both got spanked in the 1/4 Mile by a 3.0L Diesel. 0-60 was close the H2 beat the Grand by .01 sec. It also blew them off the planet in fuel milage. That says a lot for the lil 3.0L Diesel. NOW if we could only get it in the JK 4dr Rubicon package, it could farther the beating. And make one awesome machine for us. :)

The Grand got killed in the FWOTY contest because it's not a wheeler out the box, but place a order with AEV and that problem is solved :shakin:

Yeah that was awsome, Diesel is the future, people need to get used to it. New Popular Mechanics has the VW punto/poiter (depending on which continent you live on) that get's 70mpg. All that and no massive battery pack and electronic gizmo's to route power (although I know modern diesels are much more complicated than Rudolphs original brain child).

I am ready for it! I have been wanting a oil burner for a long time now in a pick up but not ever really haveing the need for one haven't. I would live to find a rolled Grand with the 3.0 TD in for a swap into my LJ ruby!

The diesel engine is now an option for the entry-level Laredo trim level.

MSRP...:
Laredo X 4x4 diesel $38,300

$40-large for the stripper Laredo model?

God help the middle-class...we'll never learn. I wonder if folks know that a $40k car will cost them HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS out of their retirement if allowed to gain interest over 30 years? What's worse is that most of us only drive cars for five years and turn around and do it again, and again, and again. It shouldn't be a surprise to anybody that we middle-classers don't know how to responsibly buy an affordable home, either.

Sorry for the rant, but after seeing that the "budget model" that so many middle-class folk believe that should have is priced so high, I pity the fools who sucker themselves in to this purchase.

*None of this applies to those that can actually afford this vehicle.

The first step is getting over the "keeping up with the Jones's" mentality that keeps us buying new crap to replace old crap that isn't broken...

Welcome to my world of NEVER BUYING NEW CARS. Plus with this crowds way of thinking we build better trucks than they make for us anyway so why not just buy an old one a make what you want.

And here in lies the rub: It takes poeple like those who sell and buy new every five years to give us those now older rigs to buy cheap and build. I say let the American consumer crap go untill it implodes, I'll sit back and be quite content with never being in the latest and greatest.
