2008 Nissan Pathfinder R51? or Armada?

For my money I would get an older LC100 to be honest, my father had the LX and it was magnificent.

HOWEVER, if you're like most of us Nissan guys and don't mind being a little *ahem* different, then the R51 and Armada are solid choices both. Rocky Road Outiftters has a full ARB catalogue for the R51. I would say just go for it, because the Pathy is narrower than the Armada, yet has the same V8, which IMO is a perfect combo.

There's just something I like about the R51 Pathfinder over the 4Runner and other SUV's. Sort of a poor man's LR3 with the IFS & IRS setup, but better reliability and less expensive parts & repairs. I love the LR3 and they are affordable but the thoughts of repairs and parts costs scares me. The Jeep Commander / GC is the other alternative but I've heard horror stories about electrical issues and driveline woes.

I hear that ... I pulled up to a light next to a red v8 Pathy this afternoon, that had followed me out of our neighborhood, and I had to actively restrain myself from rolling down the window to ask for their 'hand me the keys' price ...

Yep the R51 or the Armada will definitely stand out in the crowd from the rest. Personally in this day and age I don't see IFS/IRS as a major issue anymore because even the iconic Grand Cherokee has had them now...provided it's designed for offroading in mind (unlike say a Ford Expedition's IFS/IRS setup with very little suspension travel and big fat control arms hanging 2" from the road). As long as you know the aftermarket limitations and like the truck go for it!

Agreed. I went through some pretty tough stuff this last week, at least by my standards , and there wasn't a thing that a fully independent suspended pathfinder couldn't do

Also, remember IFS was at one point in the same sort of voodoo realm as IRS, so just go for it, and you won't be sorry!

Us R50 guys have been considered "out there" for a while, but every single day brings us more capable rigs and parts available. So make the R51 your own, if that's what you love (and you clearly do) then buy it. :smiley_drive:

Would a V8 (or the V6) Pathfinder be ok to tow a 23' travel trailer that is 4200# dry weight and closer to 5000# loaded? I am pretty sure the Armada or a Titan could handle it.

I dont think it would have any issue, I think the V8 pathfinders are rated for 7000 lbs and the V6 6500 lbs.

It'll be fine with 5000lbs, just make sure you have the trailer brakes in good condition and a quality (Tekonsha) brake controller. You may find that the rear sags in which case you may want to get the weight distribution hitch and/or air bags for the rear springs. I never had sway control on my trailer but I've heard that it helps keep the carriage trying to pass the horse.

BTW I towed my 4500lbs trailer with the Ridgeline and it towed like a dream. I tried towing it with my old Dodge Dakota V8 and it felt down right scary. It's not the engine that matters the most when towing it's the wheelbase, brakes and road stability of the tow vehicle and sensible loading of the trailer.

Shouldn't be a problem, especially with the V8 and longer wheelbase etc of the R51. If I'm not mistaken, it's made on the narrowed frame of the Titan anyway.
