A factory rear locker WITH ATRAC is a very build-able platform. The low clearance of stock 4Runners is a serious limitation, but is easily corrected with an inexpensive OME suspension. I strongly favor 16-inch tires/wheels, and LT255/85R16s will fit a lifted 4Runner very nicely using the stock 16-in. wheels.
I am surprised but delighted that Toyota is making the rear locker available in the 4Runner this late in body-style run after the FJC and Tacomas have been receiving all of the off-road attention in recent years.
I love my little V8 and how I have set-up my 4Runner, but if I was buying today I would certainly buy a V6 Trail Edition and save money, time and unnecessary surgery, and gain a 2WD position in the T-case.
There is some talk about the '09 4Runner SR5 w/ locker in this thread, but I thought the car deserved it's own thread.
