wow that put a "don't buy" on it. That is a little extreme. I never like Consumer Reports. I don't see how that helps anyone.

Their advice/testing can save your life. I didn't say WILL. I said CAN. If all kinds of SUV's pass the test (which is a credible and fair test) and the LX460 doe snot I agree it shoud be noted.

I would not buy and drive the other vehicles that CR tested as risky:

*Sammy (rollover)
*Last model Trooper until Isuzu stiffened the suspension (badly tipped onto two wheels and would have rolled over)
*98-99 Cruiser (tipped onto two wheels briefly)(VSC in 2000 solved this)
*LX460...they need to change the firmware in the VSC CPU and/or make a suspension change.

It actually looked like the slide was pretty controlled.
The vehicle recovered and didn't flip over.

I wouldn't like to try that test in my TJ :)

If they issue a don't buy it I could care less.

I have owned two vehicles in the past that CR rated low in pretty much every area and I never had any problems.

There have also been issues with their advertisers and how it influences some of their ratings.

Ummm, my issues of Consumers Report have never had an advertisement for any other company in it. Maybe we're talking about different journals...

The other points about CRs conservatism are well taken. Unfortunately, they're aiming for the typical driver. If "those people" stay away from a car like the Prado 150 Series / Lexus GX460 based on this advice, that's probably a good thing.

I like their reliability statistics. The power of large numbers is significant.

does this dash look a little dodge/ford plasticky. I can't make a true comment but from the picture it looks a little cheesy... meh

I think everything looks plasticky now days

Isn't this rig a clone of the Landcruiser? Why did it not get bad marks as well?

Hmmm?

GX 460 is the Prado 150 everywhere else in the world
The LX470 is the Land Cruiser.

On the new interior, it looks and feels much better in person. I was checking one out at the dealer a while back. but it did have a black interior, much nicer looking.

And the Prado is also known as the 4runner correct?

So why didn't CR tap the 4runner for this issue as well?

The 4Runner and the Prado share a chassis. Same as the FJ and Tacoma so obviously there are differences.

but to your second question.. I dunno.

The article at consumerreports.com says they tested the 4Runner, and
it did not exhibit the same amount of tail-wagging as the GX460 did in
this test.

The FJ/4Runner/Prado/GX460 all share a chassis. the FJ and Tacoma share front suspension.

The 2010 FJ had some suspension changes over the previous FJ's because the 4Runner/GX460 was redesigned completely.

I like the looks of this, but I also like the looks of the 200 series and think with a Bullbar it would be very nice indeed, but one thing i'm pretty sure I won't like is the price.

For that kind of jack you can easily buy a mint CPO LC 200.

edit: And what are they whining about? It didn't roll over... those CR clowns would have a heart attack if they ever watched an episode of Top Gear :p
