I test drove a 2012 Pro-4x Crew Cab 6 speed 6cyl today and it pulled quite well. It was certainly a solid feeling truck. I too am a Yota guy and like Tacomas but the Nissan has caught my eye with some features that the Tacoma lacks.I did find the interior a bit basic. I have a FZJ80 right now and am not buying anytime soon but am always researching potential next rigs.

No question it's a great truck. I always been a car guy and appreciate a variety manufactures, but grew up going off-road in Jeeps and Toyota's. My Dad had one good jeep, a 1984 Jeep Cherokee with the hurricane 2.5L 4 banger, and a couple of 87' Jeep Wranglers with the 4.2L, that were not as reliable. The next 4x4 was a 1992 80 series, and then a 95' fully locked. These two vehicles, along with a Toyota truck, and 3 Tacoma's, sold us on Toyota's.

When I was due for a new truck, my brother mentioned the Frontier. After driving it back to back, and checking reliability reports, I was impressed.

What are you getting for mileage on the highway with that rig?

Just curious what features you found that the Fronty P-4X had that a similarly equipped Taco didn't? For the record, I have a second generation Xterra OffRoad and love Toyota as well lol

I had a 5 gallon heftyfabworks fuel/water carrier laying around after moving up to a 10 gallon on the rear swing-out. I decided to mount it in the bed. I didn't want to drill, and noticed that the canopy clamp might just fit around the top opening on the carrier. Ended up working well, and is mounted securely.

I want to switch my winch cable to synthetic line, which I thought was going to be easy enough. Thought about going with a hawse fairlead and ProLink. After inspecting my ARB bumper I realized that my fairlead mounts are too recessed for a hawse to work without dragging the line on the bumper at any sort of winching angle...I looked into the synthetic roller replacements on amazon and I'm not sure about the mixed reviews. Some say that the rollers are very susceptible to damage from the line and others say that the rollers don't fit in the warn roller fairlead without trimming. Who has experience with this? Are there any other options? Thanks.

You can run synthetic line on rollers. Just make sure they are smooth. Don't forget you want a snatch block to keep the pull on the winch as straight as possible.

The Frontier is 5 years old this month. Quite the transformation. I never thought I'd get anything other than a Toyota, I'm glad I listened to my brother and gave the Nissan a test drive.

Great build! I want to thank you and the other Fronty owners on XP that have provided me such valuable information through your experiences. I have to say that you quote is nearly identical to mine. I would have never considered the Frontier and figured I was heading the Tacoma route had it not been for a last minute decision to give "fair audience" to all.

I was in the same boat. I went in with the mindset that I was going to buy a yota and was going to test drive the Nissan for "fairness", and the rest is history.

Thanks! Yes, very happy with my decision.

Bijan,

Forgive me if I missed the answer to this buried in the past 28 pages ;-)

I want to go with the spare tire carrier on the Fronty as well, but without cutting into the sheet metal of the rear panels. I've seen a version of your bumper on Hefty's website (attached image) and have emailed them about that version versus the difference of yours -waiting to hear back. But would love to hear your take on it if you have time?

Right now, if you click on the rear bumper link on Hefty's site it only takes you to their bed mount tire carrier.

I do know that my design is there newest version as far as the swing mechanism goes. They switched to a new 3 stage swing out and a more durable swing bolt. I can send a pic of it if you would like.

I'm very pleased with how my mounting project worked out on the U.S. rack. I used Hi-Lift Jeep hood mounts for the jack and they worked out great. For the awning I used the supplied L brackets and quick fist clamps for the axe and shovel. The overall weight with the RTT is around 250lb, which is right at it's maximum load, but the weight is distributed well.
