So how much money have you spent now that's my fault? :sombrero:

The new tires look freaking awesome. Truck looks seriously mean now, and definitely ready to take on Morrison and Goose.

I still have several more items to purchase and blame you for...Truck is coming together, can't wait to get the snugtop on! Really looking forward to hitting the trail next summer.

bijanjames,
Excellent build thread , I just read the whole thing (beginning to end).
I to have a Nissan Frontier Pro-4X (I LOVE MY TRUCK !!) and I kinda know forum member wreckdiver from the clubfrontier forum, in fact wreckdiver just gave me a big push to join here on expedition portal.
I am very jealous of your 255/85-16 STMaxx's , I so wanted that size and that exact cooper tire....but I ended up with (a deal I could not pass up) on some 285/75-16 BFG KO2's.
Question:
Are you planning on putting your roof to tent on your (new to you) fiberglass topper?
I ask because I have a standard (non-re-inforced) Leer 100XQ fiberglass topper with (roof rack tracks) and Thule feet and Thule load bars , The topper and rack are rated for 150lbs
I want to get a smaller roof top tent that weighs around 100 lbs but I am concerned about stress cracks on the fiberglass topper from medium to heavy off-roading.
I dont think the RTT weight would be a problem with on-road/highway or parked.
So I if you are running your RTT on your topper....I will be keeping a close eye/watch on your thread.
Any thoughts?
-Carl

Thanks Carl! I too was hesitant about going the fiberglass topper route for the reasons you stated above. I had contacted a few topper companies regarding the structual integrity about 6 months ago, and was told that a rtt should be fine on their toppers, provided that it is in the weight parameters of the topper. My rtt is very heavy (210lb), so it would be a must that the topper being used be reinforced. The specific topper I purchased is rated at 500lb, this should be more than enough to give me piece of mind on the trail. The roof of a typical snugtop is 1/2" thick, the reinfored version is 1" thick, a substainial difference.

How are you liking your KO2's? How many miles on them? Welcome to Expediton Portal!!

Hey Carl! Nice to see you on here.

If it helps, I know a guy here who has an Ironman RTT on his truck, and he's got a non-reinforced Leer cap. Been running it that way for years and he's had no issues.

For what it's worth, I know the factory installed tracks really help spread the weight out along the cap, which helps a lot.

If you're looking for a lighter weight RTT, Front Runner makes the Feather Lite, Tepui just released the Baja Series, which looks seriously cool, and Yakima recently announced their RTT, which is made lighter. If you have questions, I'd recommend talking to Box Rocket here on the forums. He's a Tepui rep and he's awesome to talk to.

Ah I see your Snugtop topper already is reinforced = 500 lbs
Well you made an excellent purchase then !!!!
I just got my 285/75-16 BFG KO2's the other day...so not much feedback, other than (on the street) compared to my old half worn out 265/75-16 first gen BFG KO-1 hockey pucks these KO2's are like driving on soft fluffy marshmallows but yet still corner good with the heavy sidewall.
I see wreckdiver already visited my Profile page....LOL he is quick....I better at least say hi to him on his thread.
EDIT:
wreckdiver already tracked me down.... LOL

Snugtop Mounted Today

Fellow expedition portal member, Projected, sold me his snugtop today! The fit is fantastic and it looks factory clean in my opinion. It took three of us to get it off his truck and on mine, quite heavy compared to a softopper, lol. It is reinforced to 500lb carrying capacity and has rhino rack rails installed.

Wow looks great , you found the needle in the hay stack (color matching topper).
You will for sure like the added security over the soft topper.
If you have not already done this get a tailgate sealer kit.
https://www.realtruck.com/tailgate-seal-kits/
It will decrease the dust getting in the bed.
Also I took a page out of wreckdivers thread and plugged up the various vent holes in the bed of the truck to help with the dust.
If I recall correctly wreckdiver did a more permanent solution where as I did a removable solution with some spongy type foam.

Like I said on IG, your truck looks awesome! That cap is sweet. I love the design of the Snugtop, it really goes well with the lines of the truck.

Carl is right, doing a tailgate seal is a really good idea, and our tailgates are notoriously hard to seal. If you really want to do away with dust, you'll also need to find a way to plug the various holes in the bed. There's a huge gap at the front where the floor "meets" the upright wall. There's also big holes at all four corners right beneath the bed rails. There's various other seams that need to be plugged too. I did a big writeup on it in my thread a ways back. I sealed mine with silicone and expanding foam. I still get dust, but nowhere near as much. Before, after driving down a dirt road for any length of time would get me several millimeters of dust over everything in the back, but now even spending hours on soft dirt backroads only nets me a very, very fine layer over a few things. Way better.

Can't wait to see it with the RTT up there!

Man can't believe I missed you were selling the softopper setup. I want to pick one up used at some point. The Snugtop does look better.

I got the rhino racks installed on the topper yesterday and got right to work installing the the awing and making sure the tent fits. Awning went on without issue. Rack attack supplied me with slide bolts that go into the rack rails, which made mounting the awning a breeze. The tent was another story....The distance between the rack rails was too narrow for the rails on the tent...So I spent the rest of the day drilling new holes in the tent in order to narrow the mounting rail distance. Ended up all working out in the end.
