Not a big fan of the red..... the original tan from the FJ40 would be my preference.

Corey - would be curious how the pop out windows work out. Looking forward to your review...

I wish they would do that for the Tacoma Access Cab windows too!
Hurry up Corey and get those things!

Red looks sweet! I wonder if they got the bulging/tearing fender issues resolved... after 5 years of production. I still wish they offered a true 4-door version built on the 4runner platform.

I am seriously thinking about the rear windows.
It certainly will not be for rear seat passengers though, as I took out all of my rear seating a few years back to hold camping gear and the ARB fridge back there.
But they would be good for fresh air to circulate inside, and they simply look cool :sombrero:
I need to watch the installation YouTuber vids some more, and then think about it.

As far as the bulging fender issue goes, when I was at the PSTOF a few weeks back, a few of us FJ owners were talking about the issue, and none of us have it.

Mine is a fairly early production model (June of 2006) and I carry a lot of weight such as the ARB bumper, winch, camping gear, and I have not experienced the fender rips.
My rig has seen many rough forest service roads and light trails, more so than some of the stock FJs that have gone off road and have fender rips.

Some rip, some do not.
I guess I am in the latter category.
Even if they did rip it is mostly a cosmetic thing.

I had a 12/06 production date FJC that started to show signs of inner fender problems after hitting a pothole... yes, a mere pothole. The crumple zone buckled, which I'm sure would have become a crack in a matter of time. After observing many owners that were given the runaround by Toyota, I off-loaded the POS.

For anyone considering one of these rigs, please do your homework... just do a search on bulging or torn inner fenders.

Why not just get a real FJ40?

Please take no offense...I cry a little every time I see a FJ Cruiser....Toyota where are you going....???

I don't understand why they couldn't do what Jeep is doing with the Wrangler, keep the
old style "look" but with modern performance.

No offense taken.
I would not own an FJ40 as my primary vehicle, only as a second vehicle.
My FJ Cruiser is my daily commuter, weekend getaway to explore old growth forest service roads, and also my camping rig, so it must have room inside for all of my gear and my tent on top.

Plus it being a new vehicle it is very dependable and has way more horsepower than I would ever take advantage of, and a warranty.

Also there is a misconception by a lot of people who think the FJ Cruiser is trying to pretend to be a Land Cruiser, it is not.
It is not trying to be that, a 4Runner, it is in itself its own vehicle.
Can you buy a new Land Cruiser or 4Runner with waterproof seats or a rubber floor with no carpet throughout the whole rig?
With the FJ Cruiser you can, and this appeals to a lot of folk's out there, and those two points alone are what sold me on the rig when it was not even at the dealerships yet.

There are a lot of us out there (just check out this huge site) that enjoy the FJ Cruiser for what it is.
I would not hesitate to replace it with a brand new one if I had to for some reason.

I agree with Corey completely. I'd love a nice FJ-40, but only as secondary vehicle. Definitely not a DD, and likely not even a primary expo vehicle.

Way too many compromises compared to almost any modern vehicle.

I dunno, I see many 40's being DD's running around here.

It isn't that much of leap to modernize a 40 either. Toss in a EFI small block Chevy and link the suspension...maybe some AC from Vintage Air. Price would be in the ball park of a new FJ Cruiser, and you can take the top off...:ylsmoke:

I guess I don't "get" the FJ....while the 4Runner exist, why don't they sell a stripped down version of the Runner...with rubber flooring and waterproof seats? I don't see a "need" for the FJ. I get the new Wranglers though, wish Toyota went that direction, is what I am saying.

If it isn't trying to be a new FJ40 Landcruiser, why did they name it "FJ Cruiser" then? Just curious. There are styling cues from the grill and front fender treatment, and they it is painted. Just seems like a watered down version. Again please take no offense, nothing against what people like. I think the designers could of paid better homage to the original. Jeep is doing a fine job of it, Toyota could have their version for direct competition against the Wrangler, since there is nothing else on the market otherwise.

Not watered down, in fact the new FJ Cruiser could spank a stock FJ40 from the old days.
Did an FJ40 come with a rear locker, or the A Trac system up front?
Nope, both rigs out of the box the stock FJ Cruiser is going to go further.
Stone stock FJ's with factory tires are crawling up Hells Gate in Moab.

Not trying to change your mind, as your mind is already made up that the FJ Cruiser is not your cup of tea.
Have you driven one, wheeled in one?

Now here was a concept that never really did take.
It might have sold well here too.

It is the styling that really bugs me, not the performance.

Yeah I drove one to see what the hype is all about on and off road...just doesn't do it for me. That and it is like being in a cave. My buddy has a nicely kitted Wrangler JK....good gawd that thing is nice, and I am not a Jeep guy....kept on thinking why in the Hell isn't there a Toyota version of this. For the first time in 25 years I am thinking of straying away from Toyota...they don't build anything new that I like anymore.

As for the MegaCruiser, I dig it....what couldn't be better than a Toyota version of the Humvee? Ditch the rectangle headlights for round, and I think it would be ok.
