2014 Tundra

i agree with that, but something must be done about the flex in the frame. i see 2nd gen tundras go down a particular stretch of road (concrete washboard) and it looks as if its going to twist apart.

There isn't anything wrong with frame flex. Unimogs utilize the frame flex very reliably and successfully.

Very true that there isn't anything wrong with frame flex, but when you drive a new Tundra back to back with a new F150 there is a noticeable difference between the two that some people might interpret as a lack of strength/quality in the Toyota.

Toyota only runs their models for 6-8 years. By 2014 the second gen Tundra will be end of life and I expect an all new third gen version will debut. I also expect it will have an increased payload and will be designed with a certain diesel in mind.

The 2012 Tacoma has only minor changes over the 2005 version...Should we expect a brand new truck in 2014???

The first generation Taco ran from 1995- 2004 so, yes, I'd expect all new generation of Tacoma around 2014 as well.
The first generation Tundra ran for six years,
The first generation Hilux ran four years.
The second generation Hilux ran six years
The third generation Hilux ran five years
The fourth generation Hilux ran five years
The fifth generation ran six years
The sixth generation Hilux ran eight years
The current generation of Hilux is in its seventh year

It looks like a 7-8 year trend at the moment.

Is that apples to apples? Seven months ago I compared similarly equipped (as close as the packages would allow & I would buy) Toyota TRD 5.7L trucks and new Fx4 F150s and the retail pricing was very close. I decided on the Toyota, but not because of pricing.

I really can't say for sure. It is incredibly hard to compare. I have been looking and even drove a 6 seat Tundra when I finally found one. Up here the Tundras come better equipped than in the US (SR5 is the base model). They all have power everything and then they upsell you on the stereo, parking sonar, wheels and decal kit. You can't get a Tundra with steel wheels or vinyl flooring so the cheapest possible version of a Crew-max 4x4 is $36,000. I think you can get an F150 Supercab for about $10,000 less but again, I'm not really sure it is comparable.

All,

I have been very pleased with my new Tundra. It has plenty of room, power and looks. The bonus is the fact that it gets BETTER gas mileage towing my Sherpa II trailer than with my old 4runner. If Toyota came out with a Taco with a V6 diesel, I might take a long hard look at that platform. However, I feel as though this rig is perfect for the needs of my family at this time.

I love the look of your truck. That's exactly what I'd like to get for our family (I need the six seat version which is uber rare) I was hoping for a good used one but they just don't seem to exist at all so I'm waiting until the kids are all facing forward and I'll find a six-seater doublecab which is a bit more common

I found a six seater crew max on my local lot and bought it. It has the 4.6 which in theory is better for a couple more mpgs, and has plenty of power for my needs Works great for me an my family. But that is not what this thread is about. Has anybody seen any spy photos of the 2014 yet? I'm interested in what they do as well.

I get asked why I don't drive a fullsize truck being I am '6"5. Why? Because I fit fine in my '04 Tacoma and just don't want a fullsize. I have had them in the past and I am happy with my Taco. Now, I live in mid-Michigan, the heart of GM country. I have to say, over the last few years the "Buy American/GM" thing has seemed to have settled down a lot. I am amazed at how many more Tundras I am seeing around here now. As a matter of fact, a co-worker of mine, who was a long-time GM/Chevy guy, totally floored me about a year ago when he bought a '08 Tundra. He came out of a couple fullsize Chevys and he loves it. He keeps talking about wanting a Rock Warrior packaged Tundra.

Buy American buy GMC. The most American made truck is currently the Tundra. Here is a list of trucks and the percentage of the truck made domestically.

Tundra – 90% domestic content
Ram 1500 – 70% domestic content
Silverado/Sierra – 61% domestic content
Ford F-150 – 60% domestic content

I'm not 100% on the info, it seemed like what I read a year ago said the tundra was 80% American made and the Ram was only 53%. However these are close percentages.

I know my old '89 Chevy 1500 said assembled in Canada. And yet my first Toy, an '89 XtraCab, said assembled in California.

Thanks for the kind comment! You can find the Crewmax configuration with a 6 seat option. Yes, they are rare, but they are out there...I have been out for several backcountry adventures in the Tundra, and my expectations have been exceeded. I love this truck!
