Sorta looks like some one at toyota blew in the tail pipe. The 4runner grill is not a surprise. Any guess if Toyota cracked open their engine tech lab and will surprise us?

I predict Toyota took a play out of the Ford play book. Spiff up sheet metal and load it with content and sell the **** out of the old ride. Aka, Ranger, Escape, Edge and finally the decade old Mustang which finally got a ground up redesign this yr. Content boys... Content V8 would get ya to over look that its the same rig with more cool stuff and fresh lipstick ;-)

Dont get me wrong I really like the Tacoma but I wouldnt expect ground breaking changes from the original platform.

I like the GMC Canyon much better.

I expect the new Taco will continue to sell well though.

The engine and drivetrain options would have to be a grand slam dunk to win me over at this point. This might make my decision to sink more fun money into my current sled easier.

x2...I am not very impressed and IMO the grill is too much. I was hoping for a more "world truck" ranger, hilux, colorado look...too busy front and back
Oh well, my 2005 taco just turned 100K miles so I at least have another 10 years before I "need" something new

Can't say the look is anything to make me want a 16 over a 15. I guess we will see what is in store for the drive-train. As stated^ it helps not age my 05 taco as much, but the added trail dents are helping show its age. Yea those 20" wheels will be great, NOT! The older I get the less fluff I want, keep it utilitarian, but that is not what the market is:)

I like it way more than the Ranger and Colorado. I actually looks better than I expected. I do like the 2nd gens better though.

And that would be just fine by me. Nothing wrong with DI gas, or even sequentially injected gas. Diesel is a good way to waste a bunch of money.... now, then and later. I work with new diesels every day and would not own one, except maybe an old 5.9 or 6.2/6.5 in a beater rig. There won't be any shortage of fools to buy a diesel Colorado or Titan but we'll see how far that fan fair goes. There is already a surge in people trading in their diesel HD trucks for smaller gas 1/2 ton trucks once they realized how much the big diesels cost to maintain, especially when that warranty runs out. A $5000+ injector or turbo repair is a tough nut to swallow for anybodies budget. You can sure buy a lot of gas for the cost of diesel ownership. The days of diesels being the long term reliable engine are long gone. The only way to own a modern diesel is to least it, flog it and give it back at the end of the term just like a German luxury car and let some other sucker deal with the problems that creep up with age.

I love diesel, especially offroad. Low end torque is great for getting over obstacles and diving over hills and climbs with lift and over-sized tires. And yes, I am on line for a diesel Colorado, I am waiting to see what Toyota does first. Diesel = Campaign-Ready

With one notable exception.... Tundra was all-new in 07 with decent refresh for 2014... Tacoma hasn't changed (except grill) since 05... and now appears to be receiving just a cosmetic update. Two updates for Tundra in the time period there was essentially no update for Tacoma.

I like to think Toyota is buying time with the gen 2.1 of the Tacoma to converge it with the Hilux back to the world platform. A guy can hope, right?

I need to go see the Canyon still. Drove the Z1 Colorado liked the size and body but the little details were really lacking. GMC is the higher trim version I suspect they payed attention to those little details more with the Canyon. Only big deal would be that the tires look puny on it and not sure what the stock set up would allow for a better larger tire.

Shoot...I am tired of waiting, we aren't getting any younger. We should just quit being persnickety about the platform, just buy something fresh[er], get in and go see the sites. Hell, my clapped out Taco is fine, just keep on fixing it as it breaks.

The perfect vehicle doesn't exist, and I don't want to spend my time building it. ;)
