That not getting any younger comment cracks me up. You and I think a lot alike.
THAT picture above and this is how ALL Tacoma's should come. Manual tcase!...like the not for "US" Hilux is equipped. I suppose they could still offer the electric shift in the Limited model for the flitboys that don't know how to shift one of these and need buttons and dials like their video games they grew up with but it is safe to say us gearheads do not want buttons and dials!
You would think the 4Runner would come with the dial, and the Taco with the manny. IIRC the Lexus had a manual t-case lever for while (maybe still does) doesn't make sense for that target market...believe that crowd even wants va jay-jay warmers.
Wish Toyota would just drop the Tacoma and give us the HiLux.
I've been wondering about that myself. The one advantage to the rain fly is that it gets wet, you take it off and pack away the main tent almost completely dry. Then you can shake out the rain fly and store or dry it separately. If the main tent were water proof and you didn't use the fly then you'd be packing away a wet tent when you closed the Flip Pac. Not sure if that is a good idea or not.
Alternatively I think for modest rain and sprinkles you can treat the main tent to be water repellant enough on its own. I'm thinking your typical desert showers kind of thing. For a NW soaker or a desert thunderstorm you'd need the fly for sure I suspect. I believe Dave of the incredible Flip Pac build sealed his main tent.
Of course if they make it water proof without a fly you could always add an additional fly to address my wet packing concern - so better to have it water proof than not.
Wildernest had waterproof material...though they are getting so old, if happen to find one most likely the water proofing is shot. Saw another member on here in the popup section had an all new tent sew up for his Wildernest, which I thought was a reasonable price. $1100 IIRC.
Saw that Dave waterproofed his, though if I am going to pay $7000 for camper, that should be done at the factory. I don't want to have to get up in the middle of night and toss on a rain fly when/if a freak storm blows in.
Yeah, I'd be very surprised myself. I see nothing to indicate the curb weight would be any lower and I doubt they will raise the GVWR either.
Not a real big deal for me, just have to treat the Tacoma for what it is, a light duty vehicle. Even the Ram Eco Diesel has fairly low payload, surprising close to the Tacoma. That doesn't make sense, why have a torquey little diesel truck with a low payload?
