That's what I thought, but I'm game. West lake doesn't seem that easy to get to according to the map. It sounds like I drive over to Huntington lake and then head in towards strawberry lake to get there? Does that sound sort of right?

West lake is up 168 from Shaver lake. Its on the way to Strawberry and Mirror, but NOT too hard to get to. Stuff gets harder beyond it. Guide says 10 miles north cross Tamarack Ridge on 168, another 2.5 miles cross Tamarack Creek Bridge and take a right. Should be signs to West Lake. Dont recall it being difficult. That is as opposed to 40-50 miles to Dusy trail head.

Someone may have mentioned 8/1, but just thought it was theoretical, not simple a lock it up no matter what date....

Not sure I mentioned it here or not. I think it was toasty who posted the sign pic. Im planning to come down and camp either before the run or some time in the middle. Need to look at your schedule and see where I might catch up.

i found west lake on the map, and will find it if i see the signs. i've dabbled in some of tamarack and big creeks.
a look at new places, for me.
sameish timing, i suspect.

never seen the opening day at the dusy, and was curious to see who else might be waiting.
with all the sign and gatework, i assume they have some sort of ceremony........

Oso, as far as meeting up. The only option that should be considered is Day 1. We no longer attempt to meet others at any other point, we gave that up more then a decade ago. The problem is if we have break downs or other delays, which is common, or just decide to camp somewhere different, then there is tons of stress trying to find another party and make a certain location, and lots of room for failure along with day after day late on the trail. And as we know, failure is ALWAYS an option. :ylsmoke:
We also ask someone does not bail in the middle of a trail, as this has caused legendary disasters. You could run any of those shorter first trails with us then take off....

Yep, did some more research. Was the travel Closure plan and strong effort to use a frog as an excuse. And despite and ability to open the trail sooner, it aint happening since they have the ability to lock her up until 8/1 no questions. Then again its amazing this trail is still open. Clearly it has to go at some point.
