Ford is bringing back the ranger and bronco! Can it be true?

Interested to see what engine they put in the Ranger. I'd imagine the 3.3L, but maybe the 2.7L Ecoboost (which would make that thing a rocketship). If they make some of the options available across all trim levels (i.e. rear locker) like they do on the F-series, it'll be a winner.

I agree with what P Nut said. I also hope they will have a 4 door ranger option. I always thought it was ridiculous they didn't offer it before.

If both models have an SVT version I think they'd sell like hot cakes.

Maybe some different sheet metal...but I highly doubt it is going to be a square body/SFA retro future thing the purist are hoping for.

I think the Tacoma and the Nissan are awesome. I'd own either one in a heart beat. Now with GM and Ford back in the game it will push Toyota and Nissan to innovate, and be price competitive.

Do you think the Everest could be competitive against the Toyota TRD 4Runner Pro? Ford has the SUV segment covered pretty well already, so the Bronco would need to be pretty aggressive to make any waves.

It still amazes me that no other mfg will go after the Wrangler. Man, with the profitability Jeep gets on this one model, and the amount of show room traffic it creates, I'm just amazed that hasn't happened.

Hopefully this will give Toyota some incentive to quit resting on its' laurels. Like the Tacoma, but not impressed with the current one. They just kinda warmed it over.

Yeah, think it will be more like a 4Runner...and not a Wrangler competitor...(hope I am wrong tho'! ) Didn't think we would ever see a diesel in a F150...and now we have one. Stranger things have happened!

I dunno...a diesel F150 Super Cab 6.5' bed...would be one hell of a great all-a-rounder truck. Maybe until the diesel Ranger shows up....

Probably doing this because the new POTUS has already said BIG tariffs to those making stuff overseas. Prob just be what they already make & sell in other counties, just rebadged for the US market and prob no diesel either. Ford never stopped making the Ranger, just stopped making it avail in the USA. Hope I am wrong though. I hope they make them here and offer diesels along with the TTurboed Eco Boost-------and a manual trans option.

Guy steps forward, proudly says I am, I have 37 years with Ford. I asked him to answer 1 simple question, he could not answer: How come Europe has a Ford Fiesta that gets 65-73 mpg, avail in 70 countries, but not here ? He looked like a deer in the headlights. I turned & asked the crowd "would you buy a Ford diesel Fiesta that gets 65-73 mpg ? EVERYONE said yes, very loudly. So, I then asked him if you would like more money & more market share ? He said yes. I then asked him to tell this story to the people in Ford Mo Co that can make these decisions.

There's a big difference between what people say they will buy and what they actually buy. Many retailers have been burned by surveys that showed a product would be popular but when it was actually introduced it sat on the shelf and gathered dust.

As for Ford, it's interesting to me that they pulled out of the mid-sized truck and BOF-SUV market in 2011 - 2012 because they didn't consider it profitable enough, or they thought they could shunt customers for mid-sized trucks to either their full sized truck line or to their unibody CDV (Car-Derived Van, the Transit.) If they're bringing back the Ranger then it must mean they were incorrect in their calculations.

GM ditched the mid-sized BOF SUV market as well, when they dropped the Trailblazer line after 2009. Of course, at that time the TB was competing with lots of other BOF SUVs, not just the 4runner but the Jeep JKU, the Nissan Xterra and Pathfinder, the Toyota FJC, and the Ford Explorer (which didn't ditch the BOF design until 2012.) Now that the 4runner and JKU are literally the last mid-sized BOF SUVs available, I wonder if they think there might actually be a market there?

I think we'll most likely see the Everest as the new Bronco, and it'll be more of a Jeep Cherokee competitor than a Jeep Wrangler competitor. Then again (and I'm putting on my tin foil hat ... er sheet metal hat), maybe Ford will do something unexpected and actually release a retro Bronco, since so many people have become conditioned to seeing the Bronco6G renderings and that fantastic concept from the early 2000s.

Generally-speaking, Europe has had much more lax regulations and standards for diesel emissions, which is why their diesels get such good mpg and also why they are so much more popular there and pretty much elsewhere in the world. Though that has kind of bit them in the butt, because diesel emissions have been causing noticeable pollution and smog in some of their major cities. Between those pollution issues and the VW scandal, it is possible, if not outright likely, that Europe could impose restrictions and standards on diesel vehicles similar to what the US imposes on manufacturers.
