I think it's more of keeping the dealer lots full and not lose money. Usually takes 2-3 months to retool a factory. Once the JL is up to speed they will shut down the JK and start to retool that plant. A good example is what happened with the minivans, they only had one plant, so they tried to build up excess inventory before shutting it down, but still ran low on vehicles to sell. Cost them a good amount of money. Right now the Wrangler is the goose that lays the golden egg. So they don't want to run low.

They have announced they are shuffling around plants and will not loose a single day of Wrangler production during the changeover.

I still hardly believe the 3.0 V6 diesel makes it into the wrangler. Its a expensive engine and in this configuration, the wrangler might sacrufuce grand cherokee sales. I guess the diesel option is more likely to be the euro 2.8 (alresdy us epa compliant int the new chevy colorado) or even the smaller 2.2 fiat alteady uses

I tend to agree. I honestly think 3.0 and 400 ft. lbs. is too much for the wrangler, especially the 2 door.

The only reason (and it's a big one) they might go for the 3.0 ecodiesel is that it's already in the parts catalogue, and dealers are already trained in servicing it, etc.

Same low rear shock mounts, same low frame... does anyone actually see any differences from the current model aside from a sloped windshield?

To me a jeep is an offroad vehicle small enough to fit in ATV trails and also street legal. That's not a jeep, it's a truck.

I have been having 2018 JL Wrangler on the brain as of late..

I like the new motor options & diesel, even the truck has some perks to be a good platform for a lot of adaptations. I'd take the rubicon package on both… do a portal axle conversion with CTIS.

either a RTT over the bed on the "truck" version or a nice rear interior conversion on the 4dr if interior allows my 6'3" requirement ample sleep room.. (see Africa edition!)

Soooooooo… this probably puts me at the 75K mark! ( adding 37s, & all your additional OE bolt on buddies & safety gear&#8230….

current JKU is pushing 150K….. maybe we just throw some $$$ back at her instead.

Side by side are not street legal and also ridiculously expensive for what they are. They are so large anyway it defeat the purpose. I don't understand why anyone would buy one to be honest.

Because they are FUN! thats why. I love ours. its not as big as a jeep. its midsized 4 seat polaris. perfect.

yeah I have 2 one in university, so I hear ya. But, could not pass up 4 seats, and a UTV it is awesome for throwing the tent in and getting up for a night in the bush! its just awesome. I can do that with our two jeeps too....but its just FUN in the Ranger.

Ya know...a lot of the negative comments I am reading was said about the Jk also and look at it now. If people don't like the JK then probably won't like the JL. However, I am VERY excited about the opportunity to get the Diesel engine, get way better MPG AND keep the solid axles! Can we say have your cake and eat it too! Heck yeah! I will be standing inline for one when they go on sale!

It's alright to me. The truck model is more interesting to me than the JL personally. I would love to see a single cab, short bed option with the diesel.
