The Story

We built this truck for full-time overland travel, and it's already done what most builds only dream about — driven from Thailand through Malaysia, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, and across Europe, including two loops through Scandinavia in winter. This is not a garage build or a concept that never left the workshop. It's a proven, lived-in, fully off-grid home on wheels.

Built in 2021 on the Sammitr MPT 4x4 platform with a custom fibreglass habitation box, the truck was designed from the ground up as a fully electric expedition vehicle — no gas bottles, no propane. Everything is powered by 1,600W of bifacial solar and a 24V LiFePO4 battery bank, with a Victron electrical system. The entire truck is controlled via Home Assistant. A diesel heater was the one practical concession after real-world testing at -15°C in Scandinavia.

This is the only one of its kind in Europe. Selling because our family is growing and we've run out of seats.

The Truck

2021 Sammitr MPT 4x4 Multi-Purpose Truck. 2,771cc 4-cylinder turbo diesel with intercooler, 102 HP, 240 Nm torque. 5-speed manual gearbox with part-time 4x4 and dual-range transfer case (2H/4H/2L/4L). 5,000 kg GVW. Power-assisted steering. 80L fuel tank.

The cab is a custom, extended model with 150mm of additional length compared to the standard. Fitted with an integrated bull bar, brush bar, and cab roof rack that extends down each side of the windscreen. A custom crane is mounted on the cab roof rack for lifting the spare tyre.

Suspension upgraded with 4 x Ironman 4x4 shock absorbers. Tyres: Linglong Crosswind M/T (front + spare), Hankook Dynapro MT10 (rear) on 5.5 x 16" steel wheels. 230mm ground clearance, 6m turning radius.

~40,000 km. Route: Thailand → Malaysia → Pakistan → Iran → Turkey → Bulgaria → Europe (including Scandinavia x2).

The Box

Custom-built fibreglass (GRP) sandwich panel habitation box, manufactured in Thailand. GRP on both sides with ArmaForm Eco core insulation by Armacell. Walls and roof are 55mm thick; floor is 75mm thick. Interior panels are CNC-cut Plastwood composite boards.

The box is mounted on a separate subframe with isolation mounts between the box and the chassis.

Interior dimensions: approximately 2,000mm wide x 2,000mm tall x 3,600mm long.

Bedroom: King-sized bed spanning the full width at the rear with a Thai 100% natural latex mattress. Skylight above. Large windows on both sides. Under-bed storage accessible via rear exterior hatches. Cabinets along the rear wall. Projector and screen for entertainment.

Kitchen: Induction stovetop, sink, and Isotherm Double Drawer 160 stainless steel fridge (5.5 cu. ft., AC/DC, flush mount). Kitchen benchtop with upper cabinets. Long, narrow window above for natural light.

Dining/seating: Bench seating with a sliding table that adjusts left/right and up/down. The table lowers fully, and the back cushions lie flat to create a single third bed.

Bathroom: Shower enclosure, Nature's Head composting toilet, NCE wall-mounted washer/dryer combo. Isotherm freezer also located in this area.

Entry: Door on the left side with flyscreen. Exterior luggage doors on both sides for under-floor storage.

Electrical System

Designed from the ground up as a fully electric system — no gas.

Solar: 4 x Risen RSM144-6-395-420BMDG bifacial panels (~400W each, 1,600W total) mounted on a custom extendable roof rack. Two panels slide out automatically at the press of a button so all four are fully exposed when parked. 2 x Victron BlueSolar MPPT 150/60-Tr charge controllers.

Batteries: LiFePO4 24V, 8S configuration with cell-level BMS monitoring (Overkill Solar / JBD). Original 600 Ah (~14.4 kWh), current estimated ~400 Ah (~9.6 kWh) — some cells may benefit from replacement. Victron SmartShunt 500A.

Inverter: Victron MultiPlus 24/5000/120-100 (5,000W inverter/charger).

DC-DC: Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/24-15A — charges house batteries from the truck alternator while driving. Victron Orion IP67 24/12-100 — keeps the truck starter battery topped up from the house bank when parked.

Distribution: 3 x Victron Lynx Distributors. Heavy-duty circuit breakers, MEGA-fuses, 10 x 275A battery disconnect switches.

Smart control: The entire habitat runs on Home Assistant — lights, switches, door locks, stairs, solar panel extension, and all electrical monitoring controlled from a single interface. Victron Cerbo GX integrated via MQTT with cell-level battery monitoring. HMI kitchen display.

Water System

Fresh water: 220L tank with Jabsco PAR-MAX HD4 24V 40PSI pump (replaced with new unit late 2025, minimal use since). Depuragua 6-stage reverse osmosis filtration system with remineraliser (75 GPD, standard replacement filters). All fittings are John Guest push-fit — no leaks since the build.

Hot water: Nautic-Therm heater with three heating modes — engine coolant heat exchange while driving, 24V DC element, and 230V AC element (can dump excess solar to heat water).

Grey water: 45L underfloor tank with viewing hatch, water level sensor, breather, inlet and outlet.

Climate Control

Cooling & heating:
HB9000 under-bench air conditioner with heat pump (cooling and heating). Diesel heater added after real-world testing in -15°C Scandinavian winter.

Ventilation: MaxxAir roof fan (above bed area) and skylight.

Known Issues — Full Transparency
  1. Registration: Thai registration has lapsed. The truck is not currently registered in Europe. Buyer would need to handle import/registration in their country. We have a detailed registration pathways document covering EU registration (with engine swap), UK IVA, export outside EU, and off-road/private land use — happy to share on request.
  2. Emissions: The engine is Euro 3, retrofittable to Euro 5. Many EU countries now require Euro 6 for new diesel registrations, so an engine swap may be needed depending on the buyer's country and vehicle category.
  3. Surface rust: Cosmetic rust on the chassis and engine bay from Scandinavian winter driving (road salt and rock chips). Surface level only.
  4. Battery capacity: Original 600 Ah has degraded to an estimated ~400 Ah. Some cells may need replacing to restore full capacity.

A very nice rig in all aspects, but I especially like your solar set-up with the side-out panels which also make a great awning.
