2024 F150

It’s hard to find SuperCrews with the 6.5 ft bed. I look for them for our fleet trucks constantly. Rarely do I find them, and we arguably have more trucks available to us than anywhere in the US. I work in the Permian Basin, and travel all over for work. Our lots are always better stocked than anywhere else when it comes to trucks. We’re not limited to XLs and XLTs either. There’s just as many Platinum and KRs sitting on location out here as there are stripped down work trucks.

Look up here. The company across the street from us only runs crew cab 6.5 boxes. Mostly F150's but there are some GM's in their fleet.

In the small town I work, there were three 2021+ supercrew 6.5's sitting at the traffic light this morning.

Maybe I tend to notice the 157 trucks cause I own one?

Our city is an oil gas city and lots of people have RV's or toys. Maybe that's a factor?

Father in law has a 157, neighbor across the street has one.... Def see more 5.5's but I wouldn't say a SCREW 6.5 is a rarity up here.
I was curious, so did a search of brand new supercrew 6.5 beds in a 60 mile radius.

Yep. @TexasSixSeven if you want to buy one, come up here. Over 100 available within 60 miles...

What year? I am under the impression they went away for good in 2011 for regular F150s and I know that GEN3 Raptors are only available in SCREW.

@phsycle yep, they're super rare. Actually as rare as flareside beds, but I think those stopped during the 11th gen, so before 2009.

@Todd n Natalie yeah mpg could be a huge factor and the 3.5 is probably going to be more economical than a 7.3 but they're not so far apart as either. The 7.3 can be relatively economical and when you start getting up there with overland add ons I feel like it would still be more economical because it wouldn't be as stressed as the 3.5.
It was a 2010 5.4. I bought it used in 2014. I had always had a company truck for all personal use for the last decade, and oil took a nasty downturn immediately after I switched employers. I figured I’d be on the chopping block soon enough, so snagged the truck for a steal in anticipation of needing a truck between jobs. Turned out I was right. Made it to the 3 rd found of layoffs, but eventually my number came up.

I'm sorry you went through that. At least you came out with a killer truck.

Buddha.

Finally in expo white.
I've sat in a newer Ranger and felt it was fine. Same with previous Gen Colorado / Canyons.
Better half is 5'2" and drives a Bronco Sport. She'd be comfy in a midsize.
I think the turbo 4's will be better than my half ton?
Plus shorter (can hopefully park in a garage) and narrower (easier to park)
Really the only way that would happen though is if we end up with a vacation property.
Otherwise, we'll still be towing.
The other thing I'm considering for down the road is an older / used 1 ton for the times I need to tow and another used small vehicle for a dd. (Brain says Corolla / Civic - heart says 2 door Wrangler JL.... )
My Ranger was a tight fit in the 20x20 two stall garage in the city. Moved to the burbs and my ext cab 8’ bed chev fits in my 25x25 two stall. Gotta watch those big tow mirrors around the garage door opening.

I’m thinking of getting an f-150 probably an XL super cab with the 6.5 bed 4x4 I like that a lot of them seem to come with rear lockers. Not sure what motor option I want to go with between the 2.7 or the 5.0. Any info or preference on one or the other. I’ve seen a lot of people lately saying they really like the 2.7

They're both good engines. Drive both and see what you think. How will you be using the truck? Towing / hauling?
Check your payload. I believe the 2.7 trucks generally have lower payload ratings unless you can find one with the 2.7 payload package. But I believe they are quite hard to come by. Might as well drive the 3.5 as well....

Probably not much towing but eventually would like to have a camper on the back like a scout. Will probably add a topper before the camper to be able to get out and do some camping. It will be a daily driver and weekend overland warrior

My dad just got an F150. He had done all his research and was dead set on a 5.0. He test drove the 5.0 and the 2.7 and ended up buying the 2.7. He said its that good.

He said its better than his 2010 Raptor, which in fairness had the 5.4.

When we bought our 2021 5L the sales person was honest enough and a tech geek like myself to advice against the Ecoboost. He mentioned that their service department has plenty to do with them. Because of the double turbo those are very expensive to repair when something goes sideways. Since then, I have talked to Ford mechanics and the confirmed this. They always comment on how lucky we are to have the 5L.
With the 5L you are getting more payload. We have 1900lb with ours and it's borderline with a regular TC truck camper. Passengers, gear, water, bikes all ads up VERY quickly.

The 2.7 torque curve makes it run really good.
