235-85-16s on Jeeps (first post)

I'm thinking about this size after my stock tires(225-75-16) wear out. Anyone have an pics of there jeeps with 235-85-16s.
I will be building a expo-trailer. and be mostly exploring CA, AZ and Nev deserts. What would you guys suggest MT or AT. this is not a daily driver(I carpool) however as you all know it will need to travel a lot of hiway miles to get to the trails. I plan to run the same wheel and tire package on the jeep and trailer.

BFG AT... They are quiet on the highway, they are excellent offroad (except mud), and they have very good tread life.

I would recommend the same. A great balance between trail performance and highway noise and efficiency.

I look forward to seeing the Jeep with those installed.

A third for ATs. I've lost track of how many sets we've used over the years, without the slightest hint of trouble. Good on tarmac, good on trails. Extremely durable.

I use MTs on my FJ40, so I'm not biased. For an all-round vehicle the ATs are better, and you'll experience a quantifiable increase in fuel economy over MTs.

And the 235/85 is a great size. A bit more ground clearance, yet very easy on the drivetrain.

Why AT over MT for desert? I was thinking a aggressive MT would work better for the rocks and sand. I was kinda leaning toward the Cooper S-T or STT
I also like the BFG AT. My Bro uses them on his 4runner.

That STT is a nice compromise tire. I have been more than impressed with it on BajaTaco's truck.

An AT will always make a better desert exploration tire. (unless the desert is getting a lot of rain).

Since you will run a lot of highway miles to get to the trail, an AT tire is much quieter. I was running an AT tire until recently and I never had any problems. I switched to an MT, and it is also fine, but it is louder on the freeway.

The BFG AT is outstanding on the road and it lasts a long time, it does very well in the rocks and the desert, and it is very good in the snow if you go to the mountains. It is probably the best all around tire, if you stay out of the mud.

BFG AT KO.

Quiet on the highway. They last a good amount of time. The sidewall is a little less durable than its MT brother but over all a good tire.

I ran BFG AT KO's on the Rubicon, Fordyce and many other rocky trails and with enough pressure released it can give the MT a run for the money.

However where the AT really shines is at places like Moab Utah. The AT tread offers so much more rubber to the ground over an MT that you stick like glue to all the slick rock.

AT's are also great in the sand as you are on top of the sand not digging in.

But this could easily raise the argument over driving on top of the snow or digging down for traction as is the famous wide tire vs pizza cutter argument.

Over all use the AT should serve you well. I also have used coopers and got about 70,000 miles out of those compared to the 45,000 out of the BFG's. The BFG's though still have a slightly stronger sidewall as well as the bead protector on the KO series.

Thanks to everyone. Believe me i'm listening to what everyone is telling me. I have a few months before i need to makeup my mind. it's really between the cooper ST or BFG AT. I think both will do what i want. Might come down to what i can get a better deal on when the time comes.

I will post Pics when ever I do MODs.
