255/85 vs. 285/75

Thanks for the replies.

Taking in all the considerations mentioned I have decided that, although there are many benefits to the 255/85 vs. the 285/75, it all comes down to the availability factor that was discussed. Neither BFG nor Goodyear (that I have seen searching the respective sites online) offers an A/T product in 255/85 (M/T is available but not what I believe I need based on my driving profile).

I will continue to ponder this issue for a little while longer, thanks again.

So wait!!!!! 33x9.50 BFG AT's are a discontinued size????? Dammit this throws a monkeywrench in my works. I was determined to make these my next tire, but maybe I'll have to go with the Les Schwab tire instead.

Oh and go with the narrower tires. They work better in everything but deep soft stuff, and even then they sometmes work better. Wide tires ride like crap too IMO, they grab every rut on the road and pull our already tall heavy trucks all over.

I guess I am late to this discussion, but I have 255/85R16s on my 05 Frontier, which as you know very similar to your X. I love mine, and wouldn't trade them for anything. I am definitely hooked on the skinny-tire thing, they work great.

^Nice! How do you like those Bighorns? How do they perform in daily driver duties (assuming your truck is a DD)?

Those look great. I think if I were to go with a full on MT I'd go with these Maxxis's. They look like they'll be able to do just about everything well eh.
Cheers

Stevet47,

Those are some great looking tires and a outstanding truck! Reminds me that I came very, very close to purchasing an 07 White Nismo Frontier the same day I bought my Xterra.

I see that you have Gregs PRG lift, provides a nice profile. Enjoy.

Another vote in favor of Maxxis Bighorns. I have a set and they seem to work very well. Look good too :-)

I love them. The truck is a daily driver, and they perform great on the road. As they are wearing, they are getting a little louder, but considering how quiet they were when new, they are still pretty quiet for an m/t. They do everything better than my stock BFG Rugged Trails ever did.
