My Cooper STT Pros (275/70-18) are still going strong. Just came back from 10 days in Death Valley and didn't even damage a tire or have a single warning light on the LR3.
I do think the extra weight and grip of the bigger tires means you need to be more careful with the skinny pedal on climbs and serious wheeling. Easier to break an axle or CV since you can transmit more load to it with the bigger tires.
I do get a tiny amount of rubbing when the wheel is at full lock and at about 85% lock. Nothing serious and all you have to do is release a bit of steering input to avoid it. Typically I only notice when in a parking lot. It's really only enough rub to take a bit of paint off my sliders. Not enough to be concerned about.
