Some friends and I are going to run 2N17X near Silverwood Lake (and maybe Cleghorn as well) on Saturday Sept 16th if anyone would like to come along.

It's a fun trail...and not too long. Barring any unforseen problems, it should be a short day.

here are a few snapshots from a trail maintenance trip with the Victor Valley 4 Wheelers.

thanks Scott - I'd love to hook up with some locals from this site. Was hoping a few would like to join us -- it's a fun trail, and mildly challenging with no carnage...maybe a little brushrake possible?

We will most likely meet at the 15/138 at the MacD's (1 exit north of the Cleghorn exit) by 9am Sat .

a small group showed, there were 5 trucks total. Some of the locals here in LA should come along sometime. There are bypasses around all of the crazy stuff. It was a great time, and the weather was perfect. Here are a few snapshots of some fun spots on the trail, and a nice picture someone took of my truck. The last picture illustrates how a truck this wide gets throught tight squeezes (works at the mall too).

next time

it certainly was fun...it's a great trail. The group I wheel with have adopted it along with another group from Victorville. I highly recomend it to anyone who likes something a bit more technical than the average bunny trail. On a 1 to 10 scale of difficulty, I'd say it's a good solid 6. Anytime your in town...

a guy who was with me just posted a short video of the obstacle pictured above. He was in the silver H2. The first 2/3rds is him getting through, the last third you'll see me go through. I need to work on my finesse (lucky I didn't lose a door!).

thanks mick,
I love it -- right now it's pretty much completely stock save for the obvious racks and steel rocksliders. I've been itching to airbag the truck for a while, but all that complexity might be something else to let me down when I'm far far away. A simple lift might be better in the long run (though a rougher ride).

Ron,

Very Nice H1 and great pics!

The military had them built with a purpose in mind and I dont think that a lift would be needed. I think with the ifs and irs you have plenty of height where you need it most.

I vote leave it the way it is.

I like it the way it is too, it does very well offroad and is extremely stable in sideways situations. However, with the long wheelbase (130 inches) the break-over leaves a bit to be desired. That's the one weaknes I've encountered -- leads to alot of high centering and belly-dragging. It's armoured all the way down the underside so it's no big deal, but an extra inch or two would help out tremendously -- and reduce the beatings on the rockers. The down side is that it raises the center of gravity (not good).

I'm still on the fence about the lift. But coming first will be getting my lights and switch panels istalled, relocating my winch control plug and adding an additional control switch for the winch and fast idle inside the truck. Next will be a beefed up rollcage and mastercraft seat so my son can safely join me in the fun.
