Well finally got motivated to finish this project. I needed a bumper for our trip so I painted it without finishing the sides. Bumper worked great for the trip, so I slathered paint stripper all over it and got back to work.

Well you didn't waste anything with those cut-off wheels. :) Bumper looks good.

Awesome build. Looks really good!

Couple of questions - do you know what the whole thing weighs? 10 vs 11ga? Could you get away with 11 or is 10 the way to go?

thanks

I wouldn't go any smaller than 10ga. I added a couple gussets to the wings today to stiffen them up. Probably overkill as they are pretty rigid already, but anything less would probably be suitable for mall crawling only.

With the gussets in there I wont worry about bending easily if I'm up against a tree or something now.

I weighed the bumper since I put the sides on and it only weighs 90 lbs. That is slightly less than most aftermarket winch bumpers available today. The core and structural components are all 1/4 and extremely strong. I trimmed as much unneeded 1/4 plate as possible to keep the weight down.

Thanks for the reply. I'm definitely a bit more motivated to start making mine!

At only 90 lbs for the bumper, you did a very impressive job. Definitely a motivational build. Great job!
