Pardon my ignorance but would any modifications (other than removing the original tank) be required to install this extended range tank? Do I have to move my spare from the stock location?
From reading the original installing thread. No, you don't. It'll reuse all the stock pickup and etc. Spare stay at the same place.

Well what people need to understand it that a HILux long Range tank will not work for a 2nd Gen Tacoma. That was my point.
So outside of the high shipping cost. Its not even an option.

This group buy is an option for folks who want serious range. Its an expensive product and cost to fabricate is also high.
To seam weld a tank to hold fluid is very difficult. So for the guy that said he could build one for $500 is simply laughable...

Folks who want such a tank know it will not be cheap.
Made in the USA really doesn't matter to me. The fact is, its hard to built a huge tank that keeps all the EVAP stuff happy and fits in the stock location. So for what it is. Id say its a reasonable price for such a product.

I hope it works out for the group but for sure...

Interesting -- I know of two Tacos's in the States -- a 2007 and a 2009 who have the tanks originally intended for Hiluxes installed. In both cases, the modifications to install them were pretty minor.

You can make anything work playa...
But we are talking about buying a product thats a direct fit with NO modification that doesnt set a CEL due to EVAP issues becasue it wasnt intended for a different truck. HiLux and Tacoma are not Virtualy Identical in any way, including long range tanks.. I think you should let it go.

Just because someone has done it, doesnt mean its easy to simply buy/import a Hilux tank, fab what you need to make it fit, and slap it in a Tacoma...

Anyhow back on topic, How close are you guys to making a group buy work?

because it seems that not many people are interested in this product,i have moved on to something else. outback proven is importing a 30gal tank made in australia for the tacoma.not as big as the 40gal but i think the size and weight on a DD is a lot. the company making these tanks make a huge number for not only toyotas. my tank is on its way. oh yeah the price is 1,340.00 i think it is a good price for what it is, if this is something you would like call ben at outback proven. thanks.

It's to bad that a group buy didn't work out. I've been following this and would have been up for it but it's not in the schedule at this time. It seams to be a better deal $2$ as your paying $148 per gallon for 9 usable gallons on the smaller tank versus $125 per gallon for 20 usable gallons plus a skid plate on the larger tank (even less w/ group buy).
Cheers
