35" or 37" tires on a DD F350 or Ram 3500

I'd like to hear from anyone that has 35" or 37" tires on a daily driven F350 or Ram 3500. I'd like to have bigger tires on my next truck. I would put a quality 2" leveling kit (Carli, most likely) on the truck, but I don't want to make the ride of these trucks any "worse" than they are in stock form, especially when they are not loaded. My daily commute is about 55 miles round trip, and we have a Lance truck camper that we use for a few 1-2 week trips every year. Anything to be wary about? I'm not concerned about gas mileage, just mainly about ride quality and any problems the larger tires have caused.

I find the increase sidewall adds a bit of compliance IMHO. I run 37's on my F-350 (Stage 3 ICON 2.5" leveling) and 35's on the 150...

I have a 13 F350 and my commute is 60 miles a day, 85% highway. I run a 35x12.50-20.
My truck had a 3.5 budget lift on it when I got it. And it came factory with the camper package, so it had the highest rated front springs. It was brutal on expansion joints. Like rougher than a LMTV.
I had a shop put in a BDS 4in lift with their springs in the front, add a leaf in the rear and Bilstein shocks all around. Now, it's better than my 17 F150 was with it's 3.5 coil over kit.
Ultimately, I need to lower the TPMS threshold so I can drop the air pressure to around 50 while not towing and that will make it smoother on the highway.
Hope this helps.

I ran both a 35 and a 37 on my old one ton

The truck had 4.10s and moved both sizes easily

The 37 is definately a much larger tire and heavier tire.....especially in the 13.50 width

The 37s end up with substantially lower tire pressures for the weight than the 35s. That is what gives you the better ride. I figure on 6000# for the front axle and 500# for the rear axle for my Ram. That gives me 45psi front and 35psi rear with my tires that have the same load index as a 37x1250r18. 35s will require at least 10 more psi for the same load.

The Carli and Thuren coils are softer than the stock rates. They may be too soft for hauling your cabover. Serious damping would help a bunch too. The stock shocks are designed to deliver a soft ride to convince the prospective buyer to buy.

Ive got a Ram 3500 on 37 Ridge Grapplers and I’ll never go smaller.

I daily the truck and we use it as our road trip vehicle.

I run 50psi out front and 30psi in the rear when I’m not towing.

I also have them on 17” wheels which makes a difference.

The truck looks silly with smaller tires and was made for 37s IMHO.

These new trucks are much bigger, heavier, have a ton more power and larger wheel wells than previous trucks, not to mention stronger axles and drivetrain, they can handle large tires without a ton of adverse effects like older trucks. I remember growing up, people put 31’s or 33’s on their trucks and lost tires were considered huge, to to mention 35’s which were rare, now you can easily run 35’s on a stock hd truck and they look small.

I like 37’s, I feel they are a great all around tire, large enough to get you good ground clearance, look great, fairly common and not to big where they require a ton of mods.

I don't know how the ride quality of an F350 could be made worse. My ratted out 2004 F350 with a 250,000km on 7" Icon suspension rode way better than my 2016 out of the box.

'16 has 7" Icon/OUO/Fox lift since 4000km and now has 64000km. Running 38" Toyo MT

Thanks for all the great responses, it’s always nice to hear the opinions of those that have been there and done that. I appreciate the info about the replacement front springs affecting payload. I’ll keep that in mind.

I would love to run 37s but they’re so much more money than 35s unless you get lucky on CL. I’m running 33s on my leveled f350 and it looks silly!! Can’t wait to get some 35s. Either way you’re fine.

I’m going back and forth between getting a 34 or 35 on my mega cab when I upgrade. The stock 275/70R18 is slightly over a 33, and look undersized.

For what it’s worth, I have the Thuren 0.5” soft ride springs up front on my RAM 3500 and have been carrying around my Lance camper for 8+ months now and have no complaints about any payload impacts. Paired with the King 2.5” shocks they’ve performed well both on and off road.

That's worth a lot...thanks!

37's are harder to get a higher payload and they are $$ so I stayed with 35x12.50-18. The other factor not mentioned much is rim size. I hear the 17's have very tight clearances of brake calipers depending on the rim so I stuck with 18's. Just don't go with 20's or you're defeating the purpose.
