in a word, worth every penny and a joy to use.

Home brewed base trailer ready to accept the RTT.-- note the home-brew base frame. It is pinned on all 4 sides to allow tip open either direction or pull 4 pins and off it comes.

Added features: the side window on the driver side was made to unzip in a U shape, so that in/out from that side possible. Just stand on a cooler and no ned to awaken the wifey. 3dog includes a nice canvas/screened room divider for the edge of bed so that the standing/dressing/sitting room is separated from sleep area. Nice touch! The sky light is a nice touch. In addition to the full lined room, the far full size window is in addition to being screened, covered with heavy clear plastic for viewing when doors closed. The flap for this big door/window lifts up to make a nice awning. 3dog also provided a nice big auxillary awning along the back side to serve as a dining fly and cover the tailgate/cooking/bar area. No pix but will bet more up later once we fully set up the system-- this was along side a remote highway. Thanks to Gerald with 3dog for the time to coordinate a mid-way delivery. That's Service!

I searched all over for a suitable, lightweight and rugged RTT and 3dog is the cat's pajamas. They are made in Australia and takes time for delivery, but in hindsight, so worth the wait.

I'm not connected to the company but want to share this new addition to our travel gear. they included everything needed to make this atop shelf camp experience. Poles, guy lines, repair kit and more. Look no further than www.3dogcampingusa.com

Now to hit the road less travelled.

You trailer looks great!
I like the cross bar that locks the cans and tank down.
Rack works great too.
I have to agree Holy ******T that is an expensive tent!

Very nice trailer and setup! The tent is nearly what I sketched out years ago when I first saw one of the Aussie trailer tent setups and dreamed of making one. Seems the market is finally starting to develop here in the states.

Also, I've never seen a manufacturer offer the option to build to your "T" height. So many other tents require a fixed (or within a fixed range) height. Fantastic for my SoA M416. If I had the money...

3dog offers occasional promotions and other incentives, so email them-- who knows? thats what we did. they tossed in a free rear awning/dining fly. nice! Yes, 3dog will make custom "T" height for your application. they added the skylight and the back-of-the-bed entrance also. i factored my "T" height considering airing down the 37" tires, leveling jacks and uneven terrain. The cross bar helps not only deter theft but keeps the gas cans from rattling of flopping about. We hate rattling noise on the trail! It is also cut to accept two NATO water cans if needed. I researched the market for a couple years and the 3dog system is the perfect fix. Now to sell the Venturecraft 4x4 pop up and I'm happy.

The more I compare yours with the pix on their website, it's amazing they would modify it so extensively. It looks like your T height is low enough that they moved the outer roof edge up, angled the pivot and moved the doors to the outer edge of the side panels. It's nearly custom!

What is your T height? I'm likely not going to be able to afford this any time soon, but you've got me so curious I'm trying to imagine what they would have to do given mine at somewhere between 48" and 55" (if I ever get around to building a lid...).

57 inches = T however in hindsight maybe 55 or 56 is better. either way, love it. will get more pix up next w/e. this w/e out of town for a wedding and since its dark when we get home from work, next sat it is.

Very nice tent base set up...something of a change from a "full lid". Would seem to offer a lot of flexability as far as trailer use.

That tent is a prize also....seems very well made. One aspect catches my eye...the ladder seems just to lean on the platform & sit on the floor panel of the tent with two somewhat small feet. I would likely try to put a cross bar foot at the bottom of the ladder to protect the tent floor - would hate to wear or punch a hole into the tent floor.

Congrats and enjoy!

looking from sleep area down to floor.

the 'room' is a zip on/off affair, so have option to remove the room. In this case, there is a 'wall' to attach to enclose the open side of the sleep area. One is screened, another of similar exterior canvas. Or it can be a room divider of the annex is added.

Tent comes with a heavy duty ground cover. Since we had a large roll of indoor/outdoor turf, cut a pieceto fit inside the room floor. cut it out was no fun.
IMG_6519.jpg

Made up another to lay outside as a 'porch.' Once the two pieces were cut, took torch along the edges to melt the plastic fibers to keep it from unravelling, etc.

The ladder shown earlier was simply mocked into position. The tent comes with mounting hardware and I cut out about 4" from the base. It securely attached to the sleep platform. As far as the legs possible poking a hole in floor, we have a heavy rubber mat and that plus the green carpet, etc feel it will be ok, but keep an eye on it.

The trailer itself today represents about 15 years of experimenting with different evolutions. It once held two sleep platforms that each would slide out opening the tub area as a dressing room, etc. It was a PITA to set up and since we have a Venturecraft (for sale on this forum) it was generally a packmule trailer, ATV or trash trailer. Note how the support platform forthe tent is hinged on both sides using heavy duty bushings and pins. It can be removed in about 15 minutes to go back as a utllity trailer. the mounts for the top are some leaf spring shackle plates cut in half and welded in place.
